Esports is one of the most diversifying industries available right now, with a range of new titles looking to be the next League of Legends.

Now, one unexpected rough diamond has emerged to kickstart an esports empire, as the first-ever event for Cities: Skylines has been revealed by Red Bull.

Cities: Skylines is a classic simulation game where the objective is to build a stunning concrete jungle, ready to rival the Big Apple or a horizon over Shanghai.

As a Minecraft-esque building style, with realistic life-like graphics, the game has begun to attract content creators from a range of indie games. However, they have yet to be put against the clock to build an urban borough from the first brick to the polish of the final rooftop statue.

Until now.

Red Bull will be hosting a tournament with leading content creators such as "Biffa Plays Indie Games", "quill18", "RTGame", and "The Spiffing Brit". Pitted against each other in a series of trials, they will be putting their architectural planning skills to the ultimate test.

The Red Bull team will be operating out of the London-based HQ, which could see one of six challenges be based around the wonderful British capital and its landmarks such as the London Eye, the Gherkin, Big Ben, and Buckingham Palace all illuminating the skyline.

Red Bull have teased a few of the challenges that the content creators will face, with one being as ludacris as reducing a player's city's traffic by building an effective bike network. Others include saving a city from a Meteor falling from space, with the streamers having just 30 minutes to come up with a street-savvy solution.

It's not the first time that Red Bull has started a brand-new style of esport, either. They previously opted to adapt the mainstream games like LoL to make a 1v1 event named Red Bull Solo Q. Their 'Flick' event also showcased an adaptation of CS:GO's Wingman mode, although they were played on customised Red Bull maps.

The Red Bull Metropolis showcase will air on August 21 on both YouTube and Twitch.
