The CDL season is set to begin on February 11, and there are several players out of the 48 competitors who have the goods to become the MVP. Who will take home the crown?

Shotzzy

Following his immense success in his rookie season which culminated in him winning the inaugural seasons MVP alongside the 2020 world championships, Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro will once again be many people’s favourite to retain his title and become a two-time MVP winner. Still on arguably the best roster in the game, with the Dallas Empire looking every bit of the team that dominated the season last year, and if their show match victory against the New York Subliners was anything to go by it appears that Shotzzy has come to play once again.

Averaging a 1.32 K/D during the series, with teammate Indervir “iLLeY” Dhaliwal also stepping up big time it doesn’t appear that his team will be the thing holding him back as is the case with many potential candidates for the list.

Simp

Arguably the most talented player individually in Call Of Duty, Chris “Simp” Lehr averages an outrageous 1.20 K/D over the course of his career, and if his team around him on Atlanta FaZe can step up to the plate and help Simp win a few tournaments this season, it is without question that individually Simp has all of the necessary ability to be able to win the MVP award on any given Sunday. However, given the award is based on performances over the course of the year, FaZe will need to be a dominant team throughout the year for Simp to be able to prove himself on the biggest stage when it matters the most.

Although, if early scrims are anything to go by, Simp once again looks like the potential best player in the game and with the undoubtable young talent on the FaZe roster it would seem a smart call for people to back Simp to win the MVP of the Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War season.

Envoy

After being the best player on the Chicago Huntsman last year and placing fourth on our best players of 2020 list, Dylan “Envoy” Hannon was possibly the best Search and Destroy player in the Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare season, coming up with multiple clutch moments when it mattered for the Huntsmen, averaging a 1.28 K/D over the course of the year in the game mode, which many consider the most important in competitive Call Of Duty, if Envoy can once again lead his team in the game mode, it looks more than possible that he could be crowned MVP.

As well as this, with the OpTic Chicago roster looking like a top-two team in the game early on, dismantling LA Thieves in their show match, it appears that Envoy will get the chance to prove his ability in the latter stages of tournaments when the lights will be shining the brightest.

Dashy

After a disappointing season last year, Brandon “Dashy” Otell looks to have returned to his Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 form if the show match and scrims are any indication of what is to come for the year. When it comes to Dashy, the problem was never his individual skill, anyone paying attention to the game can see his undisputed talent on the server. Where the problems come for Dashy have always been about keeping him motivated and having a team around him that he fits in comfortably, and by pairing him with former teammates Seth “Scump” Abner and Matthew “Formal” Piper from the OpTic team on which he saw his most success, it seems like a match made in heaven for Dashy.

Following his dominant performance against the LA Thieves in which he averaged a 1.36 K/D, it appears once again that Dashy may be in the conversation for MVP.

Apathy

Probably a player very few would expect to appear on this type of list, Bryan “Apathy” Zhelyazkov is a player that seems to be at his best on Treyarch titles. The two-time world champion is now very much considered a veteran player in the scene, having been competing since 2011. However, when it comes to smart SMG players, there is a very short list that can compete with Apathy, and with him being surrounded by two of his Call Of Duty: WWII  world championship teammates in Justin “Silly” Fargo and Adam “Assault” Garcia, Apathy could arguably have the players around him to elevate his performances to the MVP level that he has shown the capability of throughout his career.

Although, whilst his individual performances may be at the level required for an MVP-calibre season, if the consensus around the Los Angeles Guerrillas is to be believed that they will be a bottom tier team, this could very well ruin his chances at an MVP award, similar to Samuel “Octane” Larew last year, without the team it is hard for an individual to maximise his potential.
