Capcom ‘Unable’ To Offer Cross-Save And Cross-Play For Monster Hunter Rise On PC
Monster Hunter Rise was a surprise hit earlier this year. Of course, we expected a game where you battle with beasts of magnanimous size on the Nintendo Switch to perform well either way, but its sales numbers swept the industry. It especially evident in Japan, where a record sum of people took the day off work to experience the monster-slaying action on the day of the game’s release.
Plus, as Monster Hunter Rise has a massive new expansion set for release soon, fans are still going back to the game to experience it all over again in preparation for the new content. As it makes its way to PC, the door is open to a whole new world of players. But it comes with one caveat, as gamers coming over from the Switch won’t have as smooth a transition as hoped.
Monster Hunter: Rise On PC Won’t Cross Over With Switch
The arrival of Monster Hunter Rise on PC this January comes with some bitter news - that if you’re joining from the Switch, you’re going to have to start over. Capcom has sadly confirmed that cross-saves won’t be coming to the game, stating that "after looking into it throughout the development process, we found we are unable to implement [them] this time. As always, we appreciate your continued feedback and support."
It’s sad that players crossing over from the Switch won’t be able to pick up where they left off, but maybe this new port is designed mostly for new players who have been waiting to enjoy the title without going through Nintendo’s latest console. Thankfully, there's another perk to playing on PC.
Monster Hunter Rise Will Be 4K-Ready On PC
For new players though, the latest port of Monster Hunter Rise will have the capability to run at 4K resolution on PC, and is also coming with ultrawide monitor support, some improved framerates, and textures. Of course, the game would struggle to cope with these features on the Switch (especially as it doesn’t support 4K at all), so at least PC players will get something exclusive to make up for the lack of cross-saves and cross-progression.
The game’s PC arrival on January 12 is certainly one to look forward to - even if it might be tougher to transition from Switch to the new platform. Still, though, if you’ve been waiting to play Monster Hunter Rise for a while, this might be the best time to do so.
