Just when we thought the Dark Knight had well and truly hung up his Batarangs for the last time in Batman: Arkham Knights, rumours began to circulate that the caped crusader was set for another adventure in a sequel.

However, much to the disappointment of fans, it was later claimed that the upcoming game had been cancelled. Since then, there have been various rumours and reported leaks about the cancelled game and what the future could have held for Gotham's superhero.

Now, new concept artwork has popped up on the internet, seemingly revealing what fans could have expected to see in the game. Not only do we get a glimpse of an older-looking Bruce Wayne suited and booted in the Batsuit, but we also get to see a glimpse of Damian Wayne following in his father's footsteps.

What Is The Concept Art For The Cancelled Batman: Arkham City Sequel?

The concept art includes a series of images featuring an old and grey, but still very intimidating, Batman ready to take on Gotham's villains. Alongside Bruce Wayne, is his son Damian, who is kitted out in armour very similar to his dad's, but with a glowing red Bat-Symbol across his chest in real Batman Beyond-style. While the images have old Brucie looking fairly inactive and broody, Damian is shown leaping around obstacles and poised for action.

The images first appeared on Twitter via The Arkham Channel, after being shared on Reddit by user thebananapeeler2. In the Reddit post, thebananapeeler2 compiled all the images and concept art which has been collected so far about the cancelled sequel, which apparently had a working title of "Project Sabbath". As well as the most recent images, fans can check out the concept art for the game's Batcycle designs by artist Elijah McNeal in the Reddit post.

The epic images of Bruce and Damian were created by concept artist Goran Bukvic who shared them on ArtStation. Bukvic claimed: "This is NOT concept art for upcoming Batman movie, these concepts were done for a cancelled game a long time ago. Had a lot of fun with these." Bukvic didn't go into any more detail about the game or the story, but there have been some rumours spread on the internet over the years which correlate with the concept art.

What Would The Plot Have Been For The Cancelled Batman: Arkham City Game?

There has been no official word from Warner Bros. or Rocksteady Studios about the sequel, so any information about the cancelled sequel has to be taken with a pinch of salt. However, according to Screen Rant, "Project Sabbath" would have gone down a similar route to 2018's God Of War in that the game would have served as a sequel to Arkham City while furthering the narrative from its predecessor. Also, with faithful patriarch Alfred dead, fans would have seen Bruce exploring his role as a father to Damian but still haunted by his past and reluctant to leave the Batcave.

Again, all of this information can't be taken as fact, but what we do know for sure is that the Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League will be continuing the narrative of the Arkham video games. Not to mention, Batman fans who are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Gotham Knights might be interested to know that we may potentially have a new release window
