The three-pillar stones of the Call of Duty annual releases have work in random since World at War was released back in 2008. For 13 years Multiplayer, Campaign, and either Zombies, Special Ops, or Survival mode have stood tall like Stonehenge, before the integration method with Warzone began to twist and evolve the franchise into a beautiful monastery of brick and 50 calibre rounds of lead.

However, as Sledgehammer Games prepares for the Call Of Duty: Vanguard release date, it appears that the thickest and most valuable of the stones is crumbling into rubble and dust.

According to insider Jeff Grubb, Call of Duty: Vanguard may be released without a multiplayer experience.

Call of Duty: Vanguard: Multiplayer

In Grubb's appearance on an episode of The Game Mess Show, he claimed that inside sources have speculated that the problems for Sledgehammer have stemmed from the multiplayer experience and that there are serious fears that it may not be ready for its release in November.

He claimed that for the first time, the developers may release the annual instalment without a multiplayer mode, instead, it could have just the campaign and a Warzone integration method.

Will there be Call of Duty Multiplayer in 2021?

Grubb's comments have now added fuel to the fire that we may receive Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Remastered after all. Although he quizzed how Activision plans to market and sell two different games coming out in the same space, including the pricing, he did suggest that the developers are working on holding this ace up their sleeve.

Should Sledgehammer Games fail to release a multiplayer experience, this will come as the franchise's first year without an annual release in over twenty years.

With Battlefield VI and Halo also coming out on consoles in 2020, this year could be detrimental to Call of Duty as we know it.
