If you're ready to set fire to the rain, it looks like the next Call of Duty game will have a powerful new Killstreak. Initiating airstrikes and driving IAVs are all well and good, but does it really compare to charring Nazis with a flamethrower?

We've heard that Killstreaks are back in Vanguard, and while we're still a way out from the game's full release, things are hotting up in the trenches of this fictionalised version of WWII. With a period setting giving us a blast from the past, there's only so much you can do with Killstreaks. However, that hasn't stopped Sledgehammer Games from coming up with some imaginative ways to reward your bravery.

What is the flamethrower killstreak?

We're sure to be shouting "flame on", as the flamethrower Killstreak has been uncovered in the back end of Vanguard's upcoming Alpha. As uncovered by Twitter account @ModernWarfare, there's an option to toggle music on and off for the flamethrower Killstreak. We can only imagine some sort of rousing tune as you crank up the heat and flambé your rivals in epic fashion.

With players given the chance to roast enemies alive, the tweet has quickly caught on with players itching to get their hands on this fiery Killstreak. Responding to the tweet, one joked, "How are you playing music with a flamethrower lmao, what’re you gonna do, listen to Frank Sinatra while burning people to death".

Not everyone was impressed though. One critic wrote, "The game is already a fail... BF2042 will crush this trash", while another added, "omg this sh*t is literally gonna be MW2019". Love it or hate it, it looks like you're going to have to get used to the flamethrower Killstreak in Vanguard. Hey, at least you can toggle the music.

What other Killstreaks will feature in Call of Duty: Vanguard?

With it still being early days, Sledgehammer is keeping its cards close to its chest with a full list of Killstreaks. However, it's suggested the likes of Recon, Care Package, and Attack Dogs could all return. Then again, Activision doesn't have the best history of keeping a lid on its leaks. While we're not quite at Black Ops Cold War level of surprises being spoiled, the name "Vanguard" and a return to a WWII setting were leaked months in advance.

Of course, the flamethrower's return isn't too much of a leap. As well as featuring in 2008's World at War, the flamethrower packed a punch in 2017's WWII. We already know Vanguard won't connect to the latter, but at least they share some common themes. Still, with the previous Scorestreak system being a divisive one, there's sure to be plenty of support for Killstreaks.

News that the flamethrower is also on the way shouldn't really shock us when you remember it was recently added to the Season 5 update for Black Ops Cold War. With the Vanguard Alpha just a matter of days away, we can't wait to leap into battle to check out the array of weapons, Field Upgrades, Perks, and Killstreaks coming to Champion Hill. With the flamethrower guaranteed to make its mark, all there's left to say is, "Light 'em up boys."
