Vanguard, despite a lot of Call of Duty fans being apprehensive in the face of another World War II shooter, is carrying a lot of hype on its shoulders right now. We’re winding down from a whopper of an announcement, with an incredibly cinematic trailer, a huge Warzone event and the news that a slew of legacy CoD developers are returning to contribute to the game.

By every metric, Vanguard is shaping up to be one of the most impressive games in the series for years. And it’s clear they’re taking its campaign mode seriously - because they’ve hired some incredible voice talent you might recognise from a certain apocalyptic title.

Fans have discovered a connection between the upcoming Call of Duty title and the iconic The Last Of Us series, as one member of the cast has appeared in both franchises.

The voice of Polina Patrovia, the character that takes centre stage in the recent trailer of the game is voiced by celebrated voice actress Laura Bailey.

The reason that you might recognise her name and voice is that she voiced the divisive Abby in The Last Of Us Part II.

The character is based on the real-life sharpshooter Lyudmila Paclivhenko, a sniper with hundreds of confirmed kills, so it makes perfect sense to cast an actress behind one of modern gaming’s most talked-about characters, especially with the talent that Bailey has.

Bailey might have a collection of awards attributed to her performance as Abby in The Last of Us Part II, but her credits don’t end there. She’s also the voice of Jaina Proudmoore, the mage introduced to World of Warcraft during the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. She is also Nadine Ross in the Uncharted series, Chun-Li in a few Street Fighter games and Black Widow in Marvel’s Avengers.

She’s a greatly celebrated actress, and she’s bound to be a great addition to Vanguard too. Who knows - maybe her appearance will make Call of Duty’s long-neglected Campaign mode a new high-point for the series.
