Call Of Duty Players Claim Cold War Season 5 Is ‘Broken’
As Call of Duty fans, we don’t expect many performance issues from Black Ops Cold War. Of course, they’re often inevitable even in the highest-end AAA titles, but we’ve come to expect stutters, breaks and lopsided fixes from Warzone, rather than Cold War. It’s our fault for believing in them, frankly.
Either way, the game’s fifth season is in full effect, bringing with it some new Operators and weapons to boot - but sadly, it’s also brought some stability issues that are frustrating fans of the game - even those on some pretty hefty hardware.
Why is Black Ops Cold War Season Five ‘Broken’?
Click to enlargeSome Cold War players are reporting serious issues with in-game stuttering, forcing them to lose a lot of their often winnable gunfights. The discussion around the stutters was started by Reddit user polyh3dron in the blackopscoldwar subreddit, who posted a video of their stream.
The video shows him attempting to engage in gunfights, but the game stutters every time he pulls away from ADS, leading to an undue death. He also details his PC specs to show off that his rig is powerful enough to handle the game. So, why is the game itself is letting him down?

Click to enlargeIt’s clear that this isn’t a problem exclusive to polyh3dron, as fans are sounding off in the comments about how they’ve suffered similar problems.
"I get this too dude", says one user. "After everytime I die I get a microstutter, has me thinking my game is gonna crash everytime. For reference, R7 3700x and RTX 2080 super. So it seems to be happening to any hardware combos."
Some users are suggesting fixes, though - with many of them reporting that switching off ray tracing takes care of the problem.
"It’s the ray tracing", says HeadOfBengarl. "Even on rigs that are perfectly well specced, RT just doesn’t play well in this game. You’re hardly missing anything if you turn it off tbh so well worth a shot."
Regardless of whether ray tracing is the culprit of the problem, the fact that the feature is making the game so frustrating to play even on the most high-end PCs is irritating. Fingers crossed that a fix will come soon - otherwise, what’s the point in spending thousands on the ultimate gaming rig if the games you play can’t keep up?
