New Call Of Duty Player Record Was Set In Black Ops Cold War Beta
Activision is celebrating once again as Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has continued to smash expectations and has just earned the title of being the most downloaded Beta in the franchise's history.
The first Call of Duty came out way back in 2003, but since then, Activision has taken the series out of the trenches of World War II and around the globe with a trek through history. Cold War is the long-awaited sequel to 2010's Black Ops and is set to bridge the gap between this generation and the next generation of consoles.
Alongside an ambitious main campaign and supersized multiplayer that has new maps ranging from the middle of the ocean to a neon-clad Miami, there's also the much-hyped return of the fan-favourite Zombies mode. Since the first leaks of Cold War started popping up in Call of Duty: Warzone, we've barely been able to move for news about the upcoming game.
How many people played the Black Ops Cold War Beta?
Posting on Twitter, Activision confirmed Black Ops Cold War is the most downloaded Beta. Although the publisher didn't reveal exactly how many downloads the game received, we know it topped the record previously held by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's Beta from 2019.
Black Ops Cold War is being dubbed the "biggest" CoD title ever, so it's no real surprise the game has broken the Call of Duty player record for Beta downloads. The Cold War Beta went live on October 8 on PlayStation 4 as part of Activision's exclusive deal with Sony. It was a huge hit and was then rolled out to Xbox and PC on October 15. After a massively successful Alpha that smashed records on the PlayStation 4, the Beta quickly followed in its footsteps.
Was the Black Ops Cold War Beta a hit?
One of the Beta's big pulls was the fact it offered a tonne of additional content. As well as an exclusive sub-machine gun blueprint, there was also the chance to unlock Agent Adler for Call of Duty: Mobile. The Beta also logged the most hours of gameplay for a Beta, further proving the title's success. Treyarch has been listening to your feedback on maps, skill-based matchmaking, and problems with cheaters, so we'll have to wait and see what's changed when the full game drops.
Considering Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War isn't even out until November 13, it surely bodes well for the game's full release. If the Call of Duty player record trend continues, does this mean 2021's title will also break the record for Beta downloads? Watch this space CoD fans.
