Call of Duty Endowment Bowl Tournament Announced For December
Call of Duty teams, assemble. As Activision gets all its ducks in a row with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, the long-running franchise is gathering the best of the best for the first-ever transatlantic military esports competition. Get ready for the Call of Duty Endowment Bowl. To say everyone is getting involved would be an understatement. Yes, even Space Force is offering up its own team of esports talent.
The charity event is presented by USAA, with the main aim of raising funds and awareness for military veterans. All five U.S. Department of Defense military branches will take part alongside the United Kingdom's British Army, Royal Air Force, and Royal Navy. New this year are teams from the US Marine Corps, US Air Force, and US Space Force. The Second Annual C.O.D.E. Bowl will take place on December 11 and unite these military forces from across the globe.
Call of Duty Endowment: When is it?
The Call of Duty Endowment Bowl kicks off at 10am PT/1pm ET/6pm GMT on December 11. When it comes to captains, each team will be headed up by a "popular Call of Duty streamer teamed up with another top influencer and service members from the United States and United Kingdom". This year's event will make the most of the franchise's latest release with a Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War "tournament-style competition". If you want to tune in, you'll be able to watch on the official Call of Duty YouTube and Twitch channels.
Dan Goldenberg, Executive Director of the Call of Duty Endowment said, "We are proud to have the United States and the United Kingdom militaries come together to participate in the C.O.D.E. Bowl. This will be the first time all military branches have come together for a spirited eSports competition with the added bonus of raising awareness for veteran employment and we couldn’t be more excited to partner with USAA to make this happen".
Call of Duty Endowment: Who is involved?
Ram Trucks is also part of this year's C.O.D.E. and is gifting a 2021 Ram 1500 Built To Serve special edition to "a deserving veteran recently placed into a job through the Endowment's support." Scuf Controllers is another event partner, with proceeds being "used to place veterans into high-quality jobs". You might've already spotted C.O.D.E Operator packs in-game, with the likes of one based on real-life Medal of Honor recipient Florent Groberg.
Getting ready to jump into the action to mentor Endowment teams in 2020 are a host of names including Jack "CouRage" Dunlop, Jordan "LEGIQN" Payton, Jordan "Huskerrs" Thomas, Kristopher "Swagg" Lamberson, Tyler "TeePee" Polchow, "Espresso", Vikram "Vikkstar" Singh Barn, Thomas "Tommey" Trewren, "C9Emz", and James "Spratt" Spratt. There are even more to be announced, meaning we're definitely not lacking in CoD talent this year.
The Call of Duty Endowment has already funded placements for more than 77,000 veterans into high-quality employment, with the aim to place 100,000 veterans by 2024. Interestingly, C.O.D.E. takes place one day before America's annual Army-Navy game - albeit on a very different battlefield. Sadly, the only branch not taking part in this year's Call of Duty Endowment Bowl is the Coast Guard. Oh well, maybe next year.
