As players hammer at the door like a horde of ravenous zombies, Treyarch is taking a "bite" out of its Call of Duty Zombies fanbase and serving up a banquet of brains with the new Firebase Z Zombies map. Although Activision has vowed to clamp down on leaks after that whole Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War debacle, it seems some sources are still getting through. Following in the footsteps of Die Maschine coming alongside the main game's launch in November, the next chapter of the Zombies saga is heading to Vietnam.

Players already knew we'd be heading into the jungles of Vietnam with Firebase Z, aka Outpost 25. With the map's upcoming release as part of the Black Ops Cold War Season 1 roadmap on February 4, the official Activision blog describes the map as follows: “With the destruction of the WWII-era “Projekt Endstation” site after investigating the otherworldly Dark Aether anomaly in Poland, Requiem now sets its focus on the latest Dark Aether outbreak site: Outpost 25, known by the code name 'Firebase Z'". With plenty of hype surrounding the mythical map, the latest leaks have given us a closer look.

Firebase Z Zombies map: What's the leak?

At the time of writing, a series of images and a gameplay video are still available on Imgur. However, given Activision's no-nonsense stance on spoilers, we're expecting they'll be pulled pretty quickly. Considering this is the first post-launch Zombies map, there's a lot riding on Firebase Z. Although there's nothing too revolutionary, note the addition of a new style of Perk Machine called "Tombstone". We don't know what this means, but expect it to be a new take on the favourite Tombstone perk that lets you “become a shadow in the Dark Aether armed with your weapons that can revive you".

The other big takeaway comes from the gameplay footage, which shows a bunker door opening onto the Aether Reactor. Those who jumped into Die Maschine will know the Ather Reactor was a vital part of the story and transported players to the Stranger Things-inspired realm known as the Dark Aether. Unsurprisingly, it looks like we'll be heading back into this trippy reality for the Firebase Z Zombies map.

There's also a section of the map that looks suspiciously similar to the "Fracture Jaw" mission from the main Black Ops Cold War campaign. Finally, the map seems to show off two areas called Data Center and the Barracks. All of it will undoubtedly tie into your overall mission of rescuing the returning Samtnah Maxis from the Omega Group.

Are the Firebase Z Zombies map leaks real?

More than just looking like the real deal, the fact Activision seems to be on the offensive pulling the images and gameplay down suggests they are legitimate. Considering the Firebase Z Zombies map is just over a week away, we're pretty impressed Activision and Treyarch have managed to keep a lid on the leaks for so long. If you're worried Die Maschine will be shown the door, rest assured that Firebase Z will be added alongside the OG chapter of the Cold War Zombies story.

On the surface of it, Firebase Z is just a revamped version of Die Maschine where you have to protect a military facility from wave upon wave of shuffling munchers., but this being Treyarch's jam with Zombies, expect there to be much more to the overall arc of the arc of this undead adventure. The Firebase Z Zombies map will be added as a free addition to Cold War on February 4 and will presumably come with a hefty download. Can you smell that? It's the smell of burning zombie corpses in the morning. We love the smell of burning zombie corpses in the morning.
