Boxing Games 'Might Have To Pay A Billion Dollars' To Include Floyd Mayweather
Floyd Mayweather has recently created a legacy in gaming that involves bashing one of the internet's most-watched stars in a multimillion-dollar exhibition. Whether the fight itself lived up to expectations, or was more of a cat-scratch between two money grabbing celebrities, the spar between Mayweather and Logan Paul attracted many eyeballs, sponsors, and a nine-figure cash income for both parties.
However, the money man himself hasn't fleeced as much cash as he'd like from the industry yet, and may look to land another uppercut into the market.
According to Mayweather's uncle, Jeff Mayweather, in order to get access to the undefeated Boxer's licencing and profile for a video game, the publishers may have to add another nought to his exhibition earnings, taking the figure to a colossal billion-dollar fee.
The upcoming "eSports Boxing Club" title is gathering hype in the padded gloved community, having secured the licences of 100 boxers, with the grand total only rising with every season. With a range of current athletes and boxing legends, eSports Boxing Club is now looking to expand its pool to some of the most illustrious fighters in the history of the sport.
However, Jeff Mayweather has admitted it may cost Steel City Interactive a billion dollars to feature Mayweather Jr.
In an interview, the uncle said: "Yeah, I know he’s been talked about being on a game and things like that, but I’m not sure, because I don’t know if they can afford him. He might want a billion dollars."
As for Jeff himself, as a former professional fighter with a 32-10-5 (W-D-L) record and 11 knockouts, he admitted if Steel City reached out he would be "honoured" to be immortalised into a game.
Other legends of the sport such as Wladimir Klitschko, Sugar Ray Leanord, Jack Dempsey, Joe Frazier, and Muhammed Ali, will feature in the game, although there is a lack of current Heavyweight contenders such as Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, and Deontay Wilder.
With the title aiming for a "late 2021 release", Steel City might have to see how their game sells before counting the pennies to get his signature.
