As filming gets underway on Eli Roth's Borderlands, the live-action adaptation of Gearbox Software's franchise has added another late addition to the already A-list cast. Joining a who's who of famous faces, Borderlands is already made up of Cate Blanchett, Jack Black, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Kevin Hart. New to the fold is magician and showman Penn Jillette. While magicians are usually good at keeping secrets, Jillette is happy to drop the spoilers.

Jillette is no stranger to stepping outside the magic circle for a bit of acting. As well as appearing in the likes of Sharknado 3 and a recurring role as Drell on Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Jillette already has ties to the Borderlands games and voiced one half of Pain & Terror (as a nod to his act as Penn & Teller) in Borderlands 3. Although he isn't reprising this role for Roth's Borderlands, he has revealed who he's playing.

What is the Borderlands movie spoiler?

Speaking during Penn’s Sunday School podcast (via Slash Film), Jillette explained how his small role sees him interact with the core cast of Black, Blanchett, Curtis, and Hart. Moving into spoiler territory, Jillette confirmed most of his scenes(s) involve Hart. "I will be with Cate Blanchett, Jack Black, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Kevin Hart, and most of my scenes are with Kevin Hart", said Jillette. "I have a very, very, very small part, I'm in like four scenes and I have like four lines".

Expanding on what his role involves, it sounds like Jillette will be leaning into his comedy credentials: "I'm a justice of the peace, I'm a preacher trying to perform a wedding ceremony and there's a fight scene. So I am in the entire fight scene just standing there. Then I come in, and I do the button on the scene. Then I'm in a space paddywagon with Kevin Hart". Although fans might've hoped for Penn to return as Pain, it doesn't sound like Borderlands will be following the games quite as closely.

What else do we know about Borderlands movie spoilers?

Aiming to shrug the shackles of maligned video game adaptations like the Dwayne Johnson-led DOOM and Angelina Jolie's Tomb RaiderBorderlands is hoping its galaxy of stars will make it more like the Jumanji reboot - aside from just having Black and Hart in the cast. The main story of the Borderlands games have revolved around a group of vault hunters on the ancient planet of Pandora, and while that's still there, expect something very different to the games.

In Roth's movie, Blanchett plays vault hunter Lilith, who clashes with the sinister Atlas Corporation while tracking down its CEO's missing daughter. Her rag-tag gang of rogues includes some new faces and familiar foes from her past. Along for the ride are stoic soldier Roland, chattering robot Claptrap, and erratic researcher Patricia Tannis. The script is being written by Chernobyl's Craig Mazin and filming is currently underway in Budapest. With Jillette presumably being one of the last cast members to be added, we doubt there's room for anyone else in this sci-fi shooter.
