Overwatch fanatics were left scratching their heads last night as long-time Game Director Jeff Kaplan left his post. With the development of Overwatch 2 supposedly heating up and a trailer expected in the coming months, some fans were caught surprised by Kaplan's departure, fearing that it may be as a result of the new title's progress - or lack of it.

Previously, Kaplan took to the screens at BlizzCon to assure players that his plan for the second instalment of Overwatch is in full swing. Leaving just a matter of weeks later, cause for concern was made, despite a heartfelt letter to fans.

As many readers took to his words to decrypt any underlying messages, Aaron Keller strapped on his boots. Also taking to an Overwatch blog post, Keller reassured fans that his guidance will see the Overwatch 2 development continue to increase.

Keller wrote, “Development is continuing at a good pace. We have an exceptional vision we’re executing on, the reaction from many of you to the updates we shared at BlizzConline thrilled us, and we have exciting reveals planned for this year and beyond as we ramp to launch.”

Without detailing any specifics, Keller also added "We’ll be sharing more frequent updates about Overwatch 2 progress and new features in the live game with you all very soon."

Setting the time frame of this year for further details, fans are now expecting a trailer or further announcements regarding heroes and maps, such as those given out at BlizzCon.

Overwatch also approaches its fifth anniversary, having been launched on May 3, 2016. With an event most probably in the works, we could be set for some clues sooner than we thought.
