We're still hungry for flesh, so thankfully, Call of Duty is here with Black Ops Cold War Zombies. While those brain-hungry munchers have become a massive part of Treyarch games since 2008's World at War, it was the release of Black Ops Cold War in 2020 that promised to take the beloved mode into a whole new era (quite literally). The new Dark Aether storyline has given players plenty to unpack since the game's release, meaning most of us have already polished off Zombies and managed to exfil safely.

For anyone new to Zombies, the fact the fan-favourite is going free is sure to be a major pull. Whether you're a newcomer or just simply gave up after the undead ripped you to pieces for the 12,000,000th time, we've got a step-by-step guide on how to polish off the Zombies Easter egg with ease. If you want to know how does Black Ops Cold War Zombies end, we've got you covered. When you're ready, stock up on Cymbal Monkies and plug your nose as we prepare to put those shuffling soldiers back in the ground.

How To Turn on the Power In Black Ops Cold War Zombies

You start Zombies by spawning in the Yard and taking your first tentative steps to rid the world of these rotten rascals. After shooting up a few of the suckers to earn points, head to the locked green door of the Nacht Der Untoten building and open it for 500 points. Run up the stairs to the end of the bedroom, head toward the purple arrow, and lay an explosive for 1,000 points - it's the wall on the left that's marked with a red cross. Out in the Crash Site, you follow another purple arrow that's painted on a rock and place an explosive for 1,250 points to head into the tunnel.

In the tunnel, there are some doors on the left that mark the Facility entrance. The doors will open as you approach, clear the obstruction on the left-hand side (1,500 points) to access the Medical Bay, go through the next doorway, and down the stairs, unlock the door to the Particle Accelerator for 1500 points, and turn on the power via the big red button for a hefty 1,750 points.

How To Enter the Dark Aether In Black Ops Cold War Zombies

Making sure there are no zombies following you, activate the two Hydro-Energy Infusions terminals that have appeared and investigate the anomaly. You'll soon be flipped into the Stranger Things-inspired Dark Aether. When inside, return to the alternate version of the Crash Site and clear the blockage for 1,250 points.

Go through the Aether Tunnel for 500 points and enter the room that has the missing Pack-A-Punch part. When back at the Particle Accelerator, fix the Pack-A-Punch machine and teleport out of there while you still can. Remember that the Pack-A-Punch Machine is key to helping you progress and offers you upgrades in three tiers. Be warned, some of them can be pretty pricey:

Tier: 5,000 points

Tier 2: 15,000 points

Tier 3: 30,000 points.

How to Get the Wonder Weapon in Black Ops Cold War Zombies

Here's where things really kick it up a notch thanks to those giant green zombies we'd seen in the mode's promo. These bulging beasts will take a lot more work than your standard grunt, but fear not, the Wonder Weapon should help you on your way. High levels of radiation lead to the arrival of the Megaton zombie. Lure it to the Pond and look out for the tree with the mutated fungus growing on it. Trick the Megaton into attacking the tree, and when it does, the fungus should turn bright purple - trust us, it's important later.

As you attack the Megaton, it will split into two halves to make your job twice as difficult. Keep your distance because their radioactive attacks can cause some serious damage. Once the Megaton Blaster and Megaton Bomber have been bested, nab the gold keycard they've dropped. Make your way back to the Weapons Lab, locate the computer opposite the Mystery Box, and insert the keycard to get the D.I.E. Remote Control.

With the remote in-hand, make your way back to the building in Yard where you spawned. Head into the Living Room and locate the hole in the wall that's glowing blue. Standing by the hole, activate the machine and get ready for battle. You'll need to down 30 zombies and watch their souls get sucked into the D.I.E. Machine. Once it's had its fill, it will discharge, and you'll be the proud owner of the D.I.E. Shockwave Wonder Weapon.

How To Retrieve the Aether Scope In Black Ops Cold War Zombies

Assembling the Aether Scope requires another trip into the Dark Aether to collect the parts. The three components are located in the following places:

Crash Site: On top of the crashed plane

Particle Accelerator: By the small fast-travel portal

Yard: Under the stairs outside the Nacht Der Untoten building. - by the Los Angel graffiti

With the parts in your possession, use the crafting table in the middle of the Particle Accelerator and add another key piece of equipment to your arsenal.

Where is Doctor Vogel's diary?

Finally, we're at the first step of the Easter egg. Back in the Dark Aether again, run to the Medical Bay and pick up Doctor Vogel's diary. You'll now need to find the three Anomalies and give them the doc's diary. Each Anomaly will look like a little blue orb and appear in one of the following locations:

Medical Bay: On the lowest floor and directly under the office where the diary was

Control Room: Towards your right when you enter from the Facility.

Particle Accelerator: Next to the workbench

With this done, leave the Dark Aether and go to the Medical Bay to enter the password on the PC.

How to Unlock the Wonder Weapon upgrades in Black Ops Cold War Zombies

Next, you'll want to make sure your Wonder Weapons are packing the punch they need. Here, players can learn how to upgrade the D.I.E. Cryo-Emitter (Ice) Wonder Weapon, D.I.E. Nova 5 (Toxic) Wonder Weapon, D.I.E. Electrobolt (Lightning) Wonder Weapon, and  D.I.E. Thermophasic (Fire) Wonder Weapon.

D.I.E. Cryo-Emitter

Find the Penthouse in the top of the Nacht Der Untoten building and shoot the box on the edge to retrieve the Empty Flask. While here, run to the other side of the Penthouse and pick up the Empty Cannister for the next Wonder Weapon. Drop back down to the Pond and hunt for the Mutated Fungus tree. Here, your work before with the Megaton will pay off. Scoop the glowing fungus into the flask and dash to the Medical Bay to locate the crate covered in chains. After you've poured the toxic gunk not he chains, the box will break open to reveal the D.I.E. Cryo-Emitter.

D.I.E. Nova 5

In the Weapons Lab, put the Empty Canister in the machine on the wall and take on the Plaguehound. Making sure you kill the Plagehound next to the canister; it will fill with deadly Plaguehound Gas. Take the canister to the Crash Site and put on the weapons crate opposite the downed plane. Voila, the D.I.E. Nova 5 is yours.

D.I.E. Electrobolt

Jumping into the Dark Aether (again), find three crystals dotted around and extract them with the D.I.E. Shockwave. Annoyingly, you can't carry all three at once, meaning you'll need to make three separate trips. The crystals are located in the Nacht Der Unoten building (Penthouse), to the ride side of the clearing in Pond, and just before the tunnel in Crash Site. Shoot each of the crystals into the box on the first floor in the normal Particle Accelerator room, and the D.I.E. Electrobolt is yours.

D.I.E. Thermoplastic

Finally (and easiest), the D.I.E. Thermoplastic is in Pond. Enter the Dark Aether, go to Crash Site, and open the grey box under the plane to collect the Fuse. Returning to the Weapons Lab, put the Fuse in the Plasma Cutter machine. Now, head back to the Weapons Lab to insert the Fuse into the Plasma Cutter machine. In the normal realm, visit Pond and interact with the weapons crate on the back of the green truck to grab the D.I.E. Thermophasic.

How to Raise the Cylinders in Black Ops Cold War Zombies

On the home stretch, the final furlong takes place in the Medical Bay. Shoot the device hanging from the ceiling using your four upgraded D.I.E Wonder Weapons. Each attachment requires a different one, so you'll know when you've done them all. Enter the Dark Aether through the doorway and run up the stairs to speak with the blue Anomaly about two soldiers. They've taken some items, so returning to the normal map, search the Medical Bay and find the Dark Aether Wrench.

With your handy wrench, enter Yard and fix the four broken parts of the wrecked tank. A zombie will try and break through the tank's hatch, so make sure you kill it. Find a nearby crafting table, create a Semtex or Frag Grenade, then shove it down the tank hatch. The tank will fire a shot into Crash Site and knock down a tree. Dashing over, find the destroyed tree and enter the Decontamination Area. Search the floor for the Decontamination Agent, but be wary of nearby zombies and Plaguehounds. When you've got the Decontamination Agent, you can place it in the glowing red slot to trigger a battle with a Megaton. With it split in two, both halves will be sucked into the container.

Warning: you're about to enter the final fight, so make sure all weapons are finalised, and you're stocked up on any supplies you'll need.

Black Ops Cold War Zombies boss battle

To trigger the final battle, go into Nacht Der Unoten's Living Room and enter the Dark Aether. Locate the Omega Outpost room and speak to the Anomaly. When speaking to Orlov, you'll be back in the normal room. Pick up the Orlov Family Photo, and it will activate the boss battle.

You'll find yourselves standing in the Particle Accelerator with Orlov. As well as taking on three massive waves of zombies, you'll have to protect Orlov. If regular zombies weren't enough, there are heavy ones, Megatons, and Plaguehounds. Wonder Weapons are key in keeping back the undead, with the D.I.E. Electroblt being a fan-favourite. Keep Orlov as a priority, because if he's hit, it will slow down the process of shutting down the Particle Accelerator.

How To Get to the Exfil Site in Black Ops Cold War Zombies

With the biggest zombies beaten and Particle Accelerator shutting down, it's a mad dash out of the facility. We'd advise taking the route through the Weapons Lab and out through the Tunnel to reach the Exfil Site at Pond. Be warned, lightning strikes can be deadly here, so avoid them at all costs. The Cymbal Monkey is also invaluable to lure any stray zombies away. You have just 90 seconds to reach the Exfil Site, so you'd better get your skates on. Completing the Easter egg is simple as you reach the helicopter and the final credits roll. And there we have it. The world is saved, zombies are banished, and you fly away from this fleshy bloodbath. Job well done soldier, job well done!
