We're hungry for more information (and brains) when it comes to the upcoming release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies. Yes, it's a mouthful, but with the return of the fan-favourite "Zombies" mode, shooting the living hell out of the ravenous undead could be one of the game's biggest selling points. Treyarch recently gave a peek of Cold War's multiplayer and showed off an impressive array of maps including the dusty plains of Satellite, the nautical mayhem of Armada, and the neon-splashed streets of Miami.

There's only been a tease of what's rising from the grave with Zombies, but now, fans think they've dug up a cleverly hidden Easter egg buried in the desert of "Satellite" and its Angola backdrop.

Heading back to 2012's Call of Duty: Black Ops II, its Zombies mode featured the "Buried" map out in Angola. Fans have already heard "Alcatraz" and "TranZit" could be making their welcome return, so why not make it a trio of Black Ops II maps for CoD's next-gen era? Also, it seems like more than just a coincidence that "Satellite" is littered with skulls that match the "Buried" icon from Black Ops II

It definitely looks like there could be something to this considering the setting of both maps. "Satellite" includes teams fighting over a downed reconnaissance satellite as a major point of interest, while "Buried" was a bizarre plot about missiles and the moon. The main arc of "Buried" involved a complicated story about a giant hole known as the Rift - burrowing deep into the Earth's core and revealing a 19th Century locale filled with zombies.

Even though Black Ops Cold War looks like it will be a grounded entry in the sometimes fantastical world Activision has created, things could go completely off-piste with Zombies. Even if "Satellite" won't evolve into a full-blown "Buried" map in Zombies, players should at least look out for nods to those brain-munching monsters.

A return to "Buried" also fits with other hints there will be plenty of old favourites rearing their head again. Industry insider Tom Henderson claimed Cold War Zombies will reintroduce the "Nacht der Untoten" map". Way back when, the "Night Of The Undead" map is the one Treyarch used to bring Zombies to life in Call Of Duty: World At War.

The Zombies story eventually ended and left fans underwhelmed with the Black Ops 4's DLC 4. "Tag Der Toten", meaning Cold War's Zombies could fix the mistakes of the past. We've already been promised it will be very different from what came before. When the multiplayer reveal gave a flash of Zombies, it's clear what's on the horizon is going to be a terrifying and atmospheric jaunt into the dark that will have us all hiding behind our pillows.
