Call of Duty is moving from strength to strength since coming out of the slump during the jetpack era. With boots back on the ground, players have poured into the newest battle royale, with over 75 million players parachuting into Verdansk. But with Modern Warfare's tenure coming to an end, players have begun to be sceptical as to what is to come in Black Ops Cold War. Will we see Blackout 2? Or Warzone continued? Or will there even be a battle royale at all with Zombies returning? Well, we're here to filter through any confusion. Here's everything you need to know about Black Ops Cold War Warzone.

Will There Be A Black Ops Cold War Warzone?

Yes. Treyarch has confirmed that Warzone will be back for Black Ops Cold War, although details have been scarce. The developers have yet to officially reveal Warzone, and likely won't until a live event occurs, transporting the Verdansk survivors to a new era, and a new map. The timeline may get a little messy, with Modern Warfare being set 35-50 years after the heights of the Cold War conflicts, however, they have promised that Warzone will continue into Black Ops Cold War.

Where it gets really confusing is what will be accessible by Modern Warfare owners accessing Warzone through the old game, Warzone free-to-play owners, and Black Ops Cold War full game owners. Will players who own Modern Warfare be able to play on the updated Black Ops Cold War engine? This has yet to be confirmed, however, logic dictates that this probably won't be possible with the number of new weapons and maps etc. that will be available that aren't in Modern Warfare. It may mean that Modern Warfare players who don't intend to purchase the newest Call of Duty will have to download the free-to-play Warzone.

What Will The Black Ops Cold War Warzone Map Be Like?

Verdansk is set to be left behind, and a new Warzone map is to be host to 150 players fighting it out to be the last team standing. Many leaks and rumours have led to the new map being in one of two locations: London or Russia/Urzikstan. Dataminers have found fourteen Black Ops Cold War Warzone locations which give us a good indicator of what we can expect. These are:

  • Battery
  • Chemical Lab
  • Duga (Radar Station)
  • Forest
  • Goldova
  • Lake
  • Mines
  • Ruka (City)
  • Russia
  • Sanatorium
  • Ski Slopes
  • Swamp
  • Weather Station
  • Zoo

These locations, should they be believed, hint towards the location being Eastern European, such as Russia or Urzikstan. Obviously the area 'Russia' is a big giveaway, however, this could easily be a curveball hinting at something unrelated. The biggest clue lies in 'Duga', which is a Russian Radar Station, also known as the 'Russian Woodpecker'. This was a Soviet Missile defence early-warning radar. There were two made, being located in Chernobyl and Chernihiv (both areas within Ukraine, or as we knew it then 'Ukraine Soviet Socialist Republic").

'Ruka' is actually a city in Finland, which is rather interesting as it is down in the files with '(city)' alongside it, according to the dataminers. This could mean that we may see a depiction of the typically winter-like city being cloned in Warzone, although this could be another ruse.

Finally, 'Chemical Lab' also hints towards the Soviet Union, who were very prominent in developing nuclear warfare. These locations make for a much more logical Russian/Urzikstan map, rather than London.

When Will Black Ops Cold War Warzone Be Available?

The release date for Black Ops Cold War is November 3. It is probable that Warzone will change to coincide with its release, although this could be delayed until a few weeks later, just as we say with Warzone not being implemented until some time after the release of the full game. This could give the developers time to properly embed the two storylines. Just as the campaign and multiplayer, a Warzone trailer will inevitably be revealed between now and November 13, which will give us some more details.
