Profound Call of Duty dataminer, TheLongSensation, has claimed that Treyarch's Black Ops Cold War will feature the same skill-based matchmaking that is used in Modern Warfare.

The SBMM engine in Modern Warfare has been one of the most heavily criticised elements on the long list of problems that Infinity Ward have faced this year. Alongside a lack of anti-cheat software, squad spawns, and overly humongous updates, SBMM has pushed players to the limits of their patience, despite the gameplay being arguably the best since Black Ops 2

Whilst skill-based matchmaking can be a good thing for those wanting to push themselves to become the best they can be, for the large majority that play for fun and 'pub-stomp', it can be detrimental to the enjoyment of the game. Especially in Warzone.

TheLongSensation has claimed on Twitter that not only will SBMM be present within Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, but it will use the exact same engine as Modern Warfare does.

TLS, also known and Tom Henderson, said "SBMM in BOCW is EXACTLY the same as Modern Warfare. It's the same system" in his tweet. The leaker has been prominent in leaking release dates for announcements and trailers in the past, and has also claimed that, in terms of Warzone, "Verdansk will be replaced with a new map, but the weapons, vehicles etc. from Modern Warfare will remain".

The only alternative to skill-based matchmaking is having a ranked playlist, which this news indicates won't happen, within Warzone at least. Fans have had high hopes that a ranked mode, such as Black Ops 2's League Play, with Treyarch taking over. With a progressive skill-based matchmaking ranked mode this would leave public matches open to pitting players of mixed abilities, adding to the enjoyment of a casual playlist.

Whether multiplayer will be getting a ranked playlist that the fan base have been begging for is yet to be seen, however, one thing is for certain, SBMM is here to stay.
