Players Think Black Ops Cold War's New Scorestreak 'Favours Campers'

If you listen closely, somewhere in the COD-sphere you can hear the faint wails of a Hardpoint veteran demanding his teammates "Get on the objective!". Whilst he's racking up the hill time breaking a 0.8 k/d, his teammates have set up camp with smores, hot chocolates and a Kar98k. As the logs crackle beneath their spawn-camp site fire, the objective player has reached the end of his tether, damning those who refuse to play the game mode. If you listen closely, you can hear them condemning them back to a Team Deathmatch.

Ultimately, the fight against campers in Call of Duty is one that can never be won. Objective game modes will always be riddled with kill hoarding snipers, adding nothing to your team dynamics. However, the pesky tent lovers are set to have the upper hand in Black Ops Cold War, due to the scorestreak system.

The new Black Ops Cold War scorestreak system favours campers by rewarding players who chain together kills over time, rather than those who play the objectives but get more kills overall. The system now works on a multiplier, where you will accumulate scorestreak points for going on streaks and will continue this when you die. The system intends to allow all players to be able to utilise streaks, although it appears that objective players will be the ones who come worse off.

Reddit user "u/JDFive" explains the major flaw behind the scorestreaks system, where the multiplier benefits those who stay alive and pick players off from afar, rather than players who capture Hardpoint hills or Domination flags. He states "This is simply a killstreak system disguised as a scorestreak system, as objective points are largely useless".

In his post, he also outlines how Treyarch can fix this, by rewarding players who get objective points, akin to how other Call of Duty's have been.

  • In Domination, every flag captured adds a x1 multiplier (excluding neutral flags)
  • Capturing an enemy flag = 100 pts x1, and a 2nd flag after that would be 100 pts x2 = 200 pts
  • In Kill Confirmed, every 3rd dog tag adds a x2 multiplier
  • Capturing 3 tags = 50 pts x 2 = 100 pts.
  • 6 tags would earn you 50 pts x 4 = 200 pts
  • In Hardpoint, every 5 seconds on the objective would earn you a x1 multiplier
  • So 10 seconds on the OBJ = 15 pts x2 = 30 pts, 15 seconds would earn you 45 pts, etc.

This system would hopefully eradicate the upper hand that is being presented to campers on a silver platter, and make for much more intense objective games.
