Bethesda's Ghostwire: Tokyo Is Releasing Sooner Than Expected

Bethesda's Ghostwire: Tokyo Is Releasing Sooner Than Expected

Sony's next big PlayStation exclusive is just over the horizon, as Bethesda's Ghostwire: Tokyo has reportedly locked in a release date. The title comes from The Evil Within developer Tango Gameworks, and has largely flown under the radar until now.

Following in the footsteps of 2021's DeathloopGhostwire Tokyo could be one of Bethesda's last big PlayStation games before they become Xbox exclusives. The title is a timed-exclusive for PS5, meaning it's not expected for a Microsoft release this year.

What Is The Ghostwire: Tokyo Release Date?

As reported by MP1stGhostwire Tokyo has apparently appeared on the PlayStation Store with a March 24 release date. If this is the case, it means the long-awaited title is closer than we'd ever hoped. The site has reached out to both Bethesda and Sony for clarification, but at the time of writing, the March 24 release isn't confirmed.

It's interesting that Ghostwire: Tokyo has barely made a whisper since it was delayed from its October 2021 release. The acquisition of Bethesda parent company ZeniMax Media could've played a part in the delay. Now that it falls under Microsoft's umbrella, Phil Spencer has confirmed Ghostwire will come to Xbox a year after PlayStation.

Although we're happy that Microsoft is honouring previous agreements, it remains to be seen whether it will do the same now Activision Blizzard has also joined this Monopoly. Sony has already made its feelings on the matter clear.

What Else Do We Know About Ghostwire: Tokyo?

Although little is known about Ghostwire: Tokyo, it's described as "karate meets magic," which should be enough of a USP to give it a few sales. Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami heads up Tango Gameworks, so that should give you some idea of what Ghostwire will play like.

If the new release date is secure, Ghostwire: Tokyo has some serious competition. March is also when GTV: Expanded & Enhanced is supposed to release, alongside Tiny Tina's Wonderlands and Gran Turismo 7. With continued reports a Sony State of Play is just around the corner, we'll hopefully know more soon.
