Amazon is keen to spread itself further into the world of gaming with its Amazon Prime subscription package. While most of us use Amazon Prime to watch old episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and get your Christmas presents delivered last-minute when you've forgotten Secret Santa, it's easy to forget there's an impressive catalogue of video games to enjoy.

Similar to how Microsoft and Sony offer a rotating roster of games as part of their Xbox Games Pass and PS Plus/PS Now, Amazon has a similar model with Amazon Prime Gaming. As a reward to loyal customers - and to lure new ones in - DICE's critically acclaimed Battlefield 3 is free to you in December. The eleventh entry to the long-running Battlefield franchise came out in 2011 and is considered by most the best the series has to offer.

How to get Battlefield 3 free

To make the most of Prime Gaming, simply link a Prime account to your Twitch. If you haven't used Amazon Prime before, you're also entitled to a free 30-day trial. More than just being a handy way to do your online shopping, Prime Gaming could be a big pull for those who are into playing on PC. To download Battlefield 3 you'll also need EA Origin, but that's pretty standard for any EA title these days.

As Battlefield 3 joins Prime Gaming's growing library, you can also enjoy another 37 games as part of your subscription. Other new additions for December include Turmoil, Sigma Theory: Global Cold War, and HyperDot. Okay, so Battlefield 3 is the big one here, but still, the fact a title like this has found a new home on Prime Gaming represents a bright future.

Considering EA DICE has also developed the Medal of Honour and the Star Wars: Battlefront games, it could be a sign of things to come. Elsewhere, EA is behind everything from FIFA to The Sims. Here's hoping we see more titles from the publisher making the move into Prime Gaming. Even if Prime Gaming is a little slow on the uptake when it was rebranded from Twitch gaming, there's still potential here.

Things don't end there with Prime Gaming's December offerings. If you own Watch Dogs: Legion, you can redeem free Nerdcore and Futurist outfits, while Immortals Fenyx Rising players can make the most of the Breath of the Wild-inspired "Frozen Pack" that includes themed outfits and a horse. Finally, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege is gifting you the "Thatcher Gladiator Full Operator Set". Still, Battlefield 3 free is the highlight here.

Despite none of these perks being live yet on Prime Gaming's loot page, that doesn't mean there aren't other big talking points. Lucky gamers can redeem $1,000,000 in Grand Theft Auto Online, get their hands on a spooky skeleton skin for Horizon in Apex Legends, and the "Carolingian Dynasty Gear Pack" in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Basically, Prime Gaming is well worth a look if you already use Amazon as your go-to place to shop online.
