Battlefield 2042 Will Have A Sandbox Mode With Classic Maps
We’ve all seen the footage now, and is it safe to assume we’re all pretty blown away? Battlefield 2042 looks to be the first truly remarkable shooter of the latest gaming generation, and it’s one that could genuinely change the shape of the genre forever.
The game has been said to have taken a lot of inspiration from the likes of Battlefield 3 and 4, and it’s very clear from the trailers that it’s going to adopt a lot of the chaos that made those games so popular.
And while the game is making its own innovations, it’s taking the time to pay homage to the legacy of the Battlefield series in a new sandbox mode that’s bound to delight long-time fans of the franchise.
Battlefield 2042 Introduces Sandbox Mode
As another in the long list of surprises offered by the team behind Battlefield 2042, it has been revealed that a sandbox mode called ‘BattleHub’ is on its way. It was revealed by Tom Henderson, a leaker who is notorious for his early reveals concerning shooter titles, and most recently his connection to the latest Battlefield title.
He suggests that BattleHub is going to be the “ultimate sandbox experience” in a new video - but this isn’t the end of the story for the new hub. The official Battlefield website mentions a new mode coming to the game, while leaving its title redacted. The site describes the mode a little more - “created as a love letter to our core fans, a new way to play Battlefield is coming. Discover unexpected battles and enter the wide universe of Battlefield with this experience, which will be shown in detail at EA Play Live on July 22.”
According to Henderson, this is not a mode that’s set to pit the competitive against each other - in fact, it’s likely to be a little sillier than what we’ve expected from the franchise so far. He suggests that old weapons, maps and vehicles will return in mismatched chaos, dropping elements of different titles across the franchise’s history for a mode that seems like a mad scramble. Sounds brilliant.
We can't wait to see this mode in action, especially as it has every chance of being the game's defining mode. It's going to be delicious chaos.
