Battlefield 2042 Leaker Claims EA Is Lying About ‘Months Old’ Beta
Battlefield 2042’s long-awaited beta was a little bit controversial. Not because it did anything wrong, per se, but the first peek at the game’s maps, weapons, and player hijinks worked great for many - and not so great for others.
The game didn’t exactly perform well on last-gen consoles, but for those who hard the hardware to make the tornadoes and explosions run effectively, the beta was an absolute blast. But now, one leaker has suggested that though the beta was fun, it wasn’t entirely honest with its fans.
Leaker Outs Battlefield 2042 For Lying To Fans
Notorious leaker Tom Henderson has spoken out about Battlefield 2042’s suggestion that they’ve been sat on the beta that went live “for months”, instead claiming that DICE is outright lying to its fans.
In an article for GamingIntel, Henderson says he has reliable sources at DICE who've informed him the beta was finalised much sooner to the launch date than suggested. The statement from Battlefield 2042 itself comforted some and worried others, as the game’s pushback made it seem like there was still work to do on developing the game. Henderson’s sources indicate the beta may have been one of the reasons for it.
Leaker Implies Battlefield 2042 Beta Was Finished A Day Before Launch
Henderson also indicates the last time the beta itself was edited before launch - and they were cutting it pretty fine. Eeeeek, suddenly this sheds a whole new light on those complaints the beta wasn't up to scratch. Quick, someone page the Call of Duty: Vanguard team.
According to the noted leaker, the game’s beta build was internally inspected just a day before it was set to launch, so there’s every possibility that bug fixes and edits could have come to the beta as late as the day prior to launch. If this ends up being true, it’d be proof of lies from EA and DICE - but frankly, at this stage, we may never know.
If Battlefield devs have lied to their fans, a scandal could emerge. With EA and DICE likely being able to get away with this pretty easily, there’s every chance the Battlefield 2042 launch will wash this all away. And honestly, we couldn’t expect any less.
