Battlefield 2042 has a lot of hype to carry on its shoulders. It’s set to be the defining shooter of the era, bringing the AAA first-person shooter to the Series X and PS5 in the bombastic fashion we’ve come to expect from the Battlefield series.

It’s expected to be a new beginning for the series too, with an all-new focus on multiplayer content and new game modes to test out. It’s clear as well that it’s a big turning point for its developers too, as one of the teams working on the game have changed their name while in development.

DICE LA Are Now Ripple Effect Studios

In a surprise announcement, development studio DICE LA are apparently no longer DICE LA at all. They’ve changed their studio’s name to Ripple Effect Studios, and they’ve announced it on their Twitter page, which has already been altered to reflect their new identity.

They have deleted all of their previous tweets, leaving only one original post standing.

“We are Ripple Effect Studios, formerly known as DICE LA, developers on Battlefield 2042”, it reads. The tweet then links to a blog post that further details the studio’s ambitions.

Christian Grass, GM of the newly-founded Ripple Effect says on the name change - “We’re so proud of our work as DICE LA and the DICE team will forever be a part of our DNA, but over the past eight years, we’ve developed our own culture and our own way of doing things. We’re excited to look towards the future, expand the team and establish our own identity.”

It’s a great move for the identity of the studio, but the timing is rather bizarre, as now Battlefield 2042’s production stands as an overlap between DICE LA and Ripple Effect.

Either way, it’s nice to see the company earn some identity back. And frankly, as long as Battlefield 2042 is as good as it looks, they can change their name another ten times before its release for all it matters.
