Battlefield 2042 Battle Royale 'Is Coming'
Battlefield 2042 has made some big promises between reveal and launch, and it failed to deliver on many. Fans are furious with the game, despite its successes - many are decrying the game as one that simply isn't what it says on the tin.
What was once thought to be a massive competitor to Call of Duty: Vanguard and Halo Infinite is likely to dissolve away from gamers' memories by 2022. It's a sad reality, but it's one that EA and DICE are going to have to contend with.
Despite this, developers are still promising players what they wanted in the first place. It might take some time, but DICE is going to come through on its promises whether they're relevant or not. And they're still promising that the game's battle royale is coming.
Is Battlefield 2042 Battle Royale On The Way?
According to leaker Tom Henderson, fans don't have much reason to discount the idea of the Battlefield battle royale just yet. Supposedly, the feature is still in the works, and will make it to Battlefield 2042 "in the very near future". But don't get your hopes up for the first half of 2022.
Speaking on the subject in a new YouTube video, Henderson doesn't offer a date, but suggests that the mode "doesn't seem like it's going to be on the cards in the next six months".
It's a shame it won't be coming sooner - not for the fans per se, but for EA and DICE. Because there's every chance that Battlefield 2042 could be long forgotten about by then.
Will Battlefield's Battle Royale Save Battlefield 2042?
In today's highly competitive gaming industry, it takes a lot to remain at the forefront of players' minds, and frankly, the last time 2042 did this was when it was revealed. It's a sad reality, but maybe it's already time to concede that Battlefield 2042 missed its moment in the sun.
The reveal of a battle royale might prick some ears up, but when it's locked behind the paywall of a AAA game, there's every chance it could just fizzle away, and it likely won't attract players to pay for the game that's already proven a disappointment for so many.
Battlefield 2042 has had a hard launch, and despite potential intrigue in a battle royale being added to the game, maybe EA and DICE's attention to the "release unfinished, finish later" model of game development has destroyed fan opinions of the long-standing shooter franchise. RIP.
