Batman Console Skins Turn Your PS5 And Xbox Into The Caped Crusader

Na na na na na na na, Batman. If you're comic book mad and want to show your love for the dark and brooding world of DC, Batman console skins are a must-have for your next-gen system. While console customisation is nothing new, the addition of the chunky (yet funky) PlayStation5 and Xbox Series X/S to the market have opened up a whole new avenue of opportunities. Just like Bruce Wayne himself would ask, does it come in black?

Despite Microsoft and Sony ploughing some serious dollar into the design of their next-gen consoles, both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S have been dragged across the coals for their look. With complaints that they look like a Wi-Fi router and a washing machine, you might want to spruce them up a bit. Since 1939, Batman has become a staple of Detective Comics and beyond. Few superheroes have had as much of an influence on pop culture as Batman, and with the upcoming release of Matt Reeves' The Batman with Robert Pattinson, he's set to find a new generation of fans.

What are the Batman console skins?

Despite the PS5 coming with detachable panels to amp up the idea of customisation, we haven't really seen it take off yet. Now, designer @POPeART_ has showcased their Batman console skins. Instead of going for the classic Batman black, it's a more subtle design with sci-fi elements that look like they've been pulled from a System Shock game. Not just redesigning the console itself, even the controllers have got some love and attention to show off The Dark Knight in all his glory.

The original tweet soon blew up, with gamers loving the Batman aesthetic. POPeART confirmed the designs have been sent off to the printers, meaning they should be available to buy soon. There were questions about whether these were customised panels or stickers to wrap around the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Of course, showing off Batman quickly led to questions about what other designs POPeART could do. Someone asked for a Dragon Ball Z set, while another championed some Borderlands customisation. The Batman collab even caught the attention of Insomniac Games' Drew Murray, who simply wrote, "Gorgeous". We've got to agree with him!

Will you be able to buy the Batman console skins?

Looking on POPeArt's official site, you'll get to see the rest of their designs. A description on the site describes POPe as, "A 3D designer who started creating controller fan art in 2017. Over the last few years he gained a modest following on social media and had the opportunity to collaborate with some wonderful people and brands. This is the first collection of original POPeART designed controllers. We hope you like them".

By the looks of it, they are all specially designed faceplates for controllers and consoles, rather than an adhesive wrap. On their site, there's a Spider-Man-inspired collab to celebrate the wall-crawling hero, while other designs look like they homage everything from Halo to Call of Duty. POPe's Batman designs started doing the rounds on social media last August, but now that they're officially in production, expect them to go viral all over again. You should be able to buy the Batman console skins, we just don't know when yet.

In terms of video games, Batman has something of a chequered past. While we've seen lows like the Batman & Robin video game to tie into the maligned movie of the same name, Rocksteady lit the Bat-Signal for its acclaimed Arkham games. Although the trilogy rounded off with Arkham Knight in 2015, WB Montreal is working on a spiritual successor with Gotham Knights. The next-gen AAA title is out later this year, and to be honest, we can't think of a better way to get to know the Bat Family than playing on a souped-up console decked out in Batman finery.
