Banned Twitch Users Can Now Appeal Their Ban

It sounds like big changes are coming to Twitch, as the streaming platform has announced changes to the way its bans work. That's right, banned streamers will now be able to appeal and question why they were kicked out in the first place.

Twitch has a no-nonsense stance on banning, making it notoriously hard to appeal thanks to the fact you lose your chat privileges. This can make it frustrating for those who are kicked, but emphasises the company's zero-tolerance stance on a variety of issues when it comes to safeguarding others.

Chat moderators and channel owners could previously be contacted as a way to appeal bans, but in a move, Twitch is introducing a new unban widget to try and streamline the process.

This could be huge news for the likes of Dr Disrespect who've been publicly booted from their Twitch throne and maintained they have no idea why. As well as not offering an explanation about why a streamer is banned, Twitch also made most bans permanent.

There are whole accounts dedicated to just keeping track of who is and isn't banned from Twitch at any given time. Unfortunately, the latest addition has led to smaller streamers and moderators airing their concerns that they could now be targeted with a stream of abuse. Although unban moderation is done anonymously, they're still being directly contacted by what could be an irate person

Twitch is already addressing this and has confirmed banned streamers will only be given one unban request. If you've been banned, we suggest you use it wisely. Twitch bans are a continuously controversial issue. Some mods are happy to listen to appeals, while others want a permanent ban system to be non-negotiable.

The unban widget is being introduced alongside something called Soundtrack by Twitch - which will allow users to use licensed music without fear of a DMCA takedown. How well the unban changes will work remains to be seen, but either way, Twitch is on the issue.
