There are bullets, blood, and brains by the bucket, as Turtle Rock Studios shows off the Back 4 Blood launch trailer. The ambitious co-op shooter is shuffling toward its October 12 release date, and with this in mind, Warner Bros. Interactive is going on the marketing assault into this zombie apocalypse.

if you're reading this, chances are you know Back 4 Blood is the spiritual successor to Valve's Left 4 Dead. While there were once plans for Left 4 Dead 3, Turtle Rock split from Valve to establish itself as an independent studio. Considering Valve still owns the L4D rights, Turtle Rock had to come up with a new IP.

What's on the way in Back 4 Blood?

The latest Back 4 Blood trailer is a gruesome and glossy look at this zombie-ravaged world. The description reads, "The new video follows the spirited zombie slaying crew of Cleaners as they fight back against the infected, unrelenting horde known as the Ridden, in an effort to reclaim the world for mankind".

Looking at the action, the trailer shows off the much-hyped co-op play and the PvP Swarm mode - where teams play as either Cleaners or the Ridden. Much like when Apex Legends or Call of Duty: Warzone let you briefly play as zombies, Swarm is sure to be a big hit as we munch our way through those doomed humans.

There are eight customisable Cleaners to pick from, while a variety of weapons meaning strategy is key to staying alive in Back 4 Blood. Finally, there's a new “rogue-lite” card system that will make for a different experience each time. You can craft a custom deck, roll different builds, and tackle even harder fights.

When is Back 4 Blood coming out?

There wasn't much else to go off from the trailer, but namely, Back 4 Blood looks like a proper next-gen shooter that will breathe new life into the sometimes stale zombie genre. Remembering that 2009's Left 4 Dead 2 is held as one of the greatest video games of all time, Back 4 Blood has some big shoes to fill. Thankfully, Turtle Rock knows what's doing with co-op shooters.

If you're ravenous to play Back 4 Blood, the game launches on October 12. As well as the standard version, there are pre-orders for the digital-only Back 4 Blood Deluxe Edition and the Ultimate Edition - that both give you four days early access.

We're counting down the days until Back 4 Blood is out, so load up your shotguns, practice your best Rick Grimes impression, and get ready to experience a modern revamp of that classic Left 4 Dead styling.
