Apex Legends Teases Icy Cryo Grenades
Apex Legends likes its grenades, moreso recently than at launch. They’re a great asset if you can remember to use them - with each throwable offering a different effect, forcing enemies from cover with thermites and pinning them to the spot with arc stars. They’re an excellent item to hang onto, especially now as the Rampage LMG uses thermites for increased fire rates, and the addition of Fuse having his abilities built around the pieces of kit entirely.
Now, it looks like there could be a new addition to the family sometime soon, as a leak has suggested an intriguing type of grenade has been discovered in the game’s files. We're asking everyone to "chill", as Apex Legends teases cryo grenades.
New Cryo Grenade Discovered In Apex Legends Code
Apex leaker Shrugtal has revealed cryo grenades in a YouTube video. Deep in the video, Shrugtal has made the hidden discovery of something called the ‘cryo grenade’ in the game’s files.
The grenade looks quite similar to the thermite grenade - safe for light blue padding - and it is suggested that the throwable puts some icy effects to use.
The leak comes in the form of an animation, showing the user cracking it open and getting ready to throw it.
Shrugtal seems to think that the grenade will have a horizontal effect similar to the thermite, but a ‘cryo_freeze_progress’ code line suggests that it could slow enemies and deal damage to them at the same time. It’d be an interesting addition to the loot pool for sure, but when are we likely to get our hands on it?
When are cryo grenades coming to Apex Legends?
Given that season 10 has just come about, and the discovery of the grenade in Apex code has just been discovered, it's likely the team has started playing around with its concept. Chances are though, if we’re going to see the new grenade soon, it’ll be during Season 11 at some point - possibly at launch.
If this new grenade is really set to join the game soon, we can’t wait. There hasn’t been a new grenade added to Apex Legends since launch, so this could be an intriguing injection into the game’s meta that could really put a freeze on what we thought we know. Either way, it's "ice" to meet you.
