Apex Legends - How Is The Champion Squad Chosen?
Have you ever loaded into an Apex Legends match, fresh off a win, dozens of kills under your belt, and think "wait, what?" when your beautifully adorned banner doesn't show up on the Champion Squad screen?
We've all been there, and it can be frustrating to come off the back of a win, load back in, and not see your accomplishments recognised by the algorithm.
So how is the champion squad chosen in Apex Legends?
How Is Champion Squad Chosen in Apex Legends?
Although there is no official source confirming how the champion squad is chosen in Apex Legends, we can hazard an educated guess.
Some internet research suggests it has little to do with wins or stats or eliminations, it's about overall "standing" from the previous game.
Total "score" seems to be how the Champion Squad is chosen, with the score coming from a few different factors.
- Eliminations
- Revives
- Respawns
- Damage
- Placement
- Use of Abilities (e.g. Lifeline's drone healing given, Gibraltar's dome shield damage blocked etc.)
- Things like distance travelled or time survived
This all culminates in a total "score", which takes from XP gained; as you earn XP from doing all of the above.
Reversely, you may enter an Apex Legends match after a humiliating defeat, and be pleasantly surprised that you ARE in fact part of the Champion Squad. What gives?
This can happen for one of a couple of reasons.
1. You performed well enough in the last game, even though you didn't win, to be chosen as Champion. This can be down to the score mentioned above.
2. You've chosen to play a different Legend this round, with whom, when last played, you won that most recent match/performed well.
Whatever happens, just do your best. You're always the Champion to us.
