While it's no secret that Apex Legends crossplay is on the way, a new leak suggests that the much asked for feature could be coming sooner rather than later. Since its release in February 2019, Respawn Entertainment has kept Apex's PC, Xbox, and PlayStation playerbase separate.

However, as other battle royale games like Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone make the most of their crossplay capabilities, there have been growing calls for more titles to adopt the same practices.

Crossplay is tipped to come alongside the in-game Aftermarket event, but when Respawn went quiet on the news front, some players thought both would be delayed. At the moment, there are conflicting rumors of when crossplay will drop.

Some thought it would coincide with Apex's Nintendo Switch release, while others think it will be rolled out with the release of the next-gen consoles in November. Now, we could have an update with some pretty positive news.

Trusted dataminer Shrugtal has been digging deep in the game's code and thinks Apex Legends crossplay could be coming in the next few weeks. The Aftermarket event was originally scheduled for September 15, but with that date coming and going, we've been left in the dark about what's going on. Shrugtal's video explains what has changed - citing Aftermarket as the reason behind the crossplay delay.

Shrugtal told his viewers, "The Aftermarket event was scheduled to arrive on the 15th of September, but due to delays with features that are meant to come out with it, namely crossplay and Switch/Steam release, it had to be pushed back".

As it stands, Aftermarket was replaced by the September Soiree LTE that brought back several fan-favourite modes in its own homage to January's Grand Soiree. Safe to say, there have been A LOT of problems with September Soiree and some of the modes were pulled early instead of having their planned runtime. At least crossplay being on the horizon is good news.

Shrugtal noted that the store's current skin rotation data runs out before Tuesday, October 13, suggesting crossplay, Aftermarket, and the Switch release have been delayed a full month from September 15.

Shrugtal also hyped the launch of a Halloween-themed event that will remix last year's Shadowfall with an even creepier twist. Basically, it sounds like devs have been busy trying to iron out any kinks in the crossplay department.

Obviously, Shrugtal's claims need to be taken with a pinch of salt. Even he doesn't have a concrete date for Apex Legends crossplay, simply suggesting it will come in the aftermath of Aftermarket. Either way, with the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 coming out in mid-November, Respawn would be wise to get crossplay up and running by then to help Apex usher in a new era of gaming consoles.
