It’s hardly worth mentioning at this stage, as it’s pretty much a given fact, but the Grand Theft Auto franchise has a very dedicated fanbase. The game’s massive acclaim has helped it accrue a huge sum of fans who can get quite intense about the series, especially about GTA V and the prospective upcoming content.

Which is why they’re so very upset that a lot of post-launch content was seeming planned for GTA V - but was quickly scrapped.

Fans Rage Over Cancelled GTA V DLC

It has been discovered that back before 2014, Rockstar Games had announced plans for what appears to be more story DLCs for GTA V the following year. As we know, that never came to be.

The announcement from Rockstar has been shared in the GTA subreddit in the form of a meme, and the announcement is as follows:

“For those ready to jump back into the story of Grand Theft Auto V, we have big plans for substantial additions in 2014 continuing Michael, Franklin and Trevor’s action, mayhem and unexpected adventures in Southern San Andreas.”

The DLC promised to give us a better look at the lives of the game’s three protagonists, but for whatever reason (we know the reason, let’s be honest) they were canned before they could see the light of day.

And would you believe, fans aren’t happy about it.

Fans are deeply upset that the story DLC didn’t go ahead - but mostly because of what inevitably kept them from happening. GTA Online simply made too much money to be ignored.

Replying to another user asking why they were scrapped, user Dominick599 reckons “because GTA Online was more important to them than story mode..”.

User WakeUpOutaYourSleep replied, “Or rather, it made them an enormous amount of money.” Fair.

One other user points out, however, that the “announcement” was just vague enough to let Rockstar get away with it. “It never officially was cancelled, although that announcement is vague enough that they never really confirmed it either”, says Nawnp. It’s a fair comment, despite the likelihood of an internal cancellation at Rockstar.

Even ignoring the possible reasons that the DLC was canned, it’s a shame that we never got to see more of GTA V’s central protagonists. Still, if GTA 6 is in the works as many leaks will indicate, we should see some more GTA stories eventually.
