An Interview With Jezu - On The Rise
It's Saturday night. You've just completed your first 2-0 week. The games were tough but you pulled through. All is fine.
Jean "Jezu" Massol is a core part of SK's lineup and I sat down with him after his win against Misfits Gaming to talk about his experience in the LEC so far and his thoughts on the current state of League of Legends esports...
You finished the game 5/5/10, that’s quite a solid performance. How do you feel the game went overall?
It was quite a weird game, because firstly we did really well in lane after diving the bottom lane a few times. Then we were really ahead, and then the game was kind of slower in the mid-game, we were just not doing anything for like 8-10 minutes which allowed Tristana to come back in the game, and then we had the scaling kicking in with the Azir, and we managed to find the win in the fights.
You’ve been a part of this roster for five weeks now, do you think you’ve settled in well?
Yeah, I think so, in terms of personality everyone is really nice and in terms of gameplay, I feel at ease and able to play like I want - so everything’s good.
You faced one of your fellow Frenchmen this evening, Vincent "Vetheo" Berrié from Misfits, how do you think he’s been performing in the LEC?
I think Vetheo is not performing as well as he could. He did really well in his first match against Fnatic, but besides that I think he could do more, and he knows it as well. It’s quite frustrating for him because he knows that he could be playing better. I know it will come with time, and he just needs more experience to prove himself.
While we’re on the topic of the French scene, you got promoted from Misfits Premier last year, do you think any of their players are up for promotion to the LEC any time seen?
I think Tobiasz "Agresivoo" Ciba could, he’s a player I really enjoyed playing with, and he’s really talented, so I think he would be a good asset to an LEC team.
Moving on, there’s been a lot of talk over the last couple of days about the removal of import restrictions. I’m sure you’re having a great time in Europe but if you had the choice of anywhere in the world, where would you want to play most?
Honestly, it’s really hard to say. I want to play where the level is the highest obviously, but I’m really fine in Europe, so I’m happy like this.
You’re currently 6-5, is this where you expected to be 11 games into the split?
It’s hard to tell, it’s my first split in the LEC, so I knew we had a team that could do great, but it’s really hard to see if we were the better team or not. I expected us to do great, and we are doing pretty fine for now, but it’s hard to predict how it will go.
You have two big games next week, MAD Lions and Excel are sitting around the same point in the table, what sort of preparations are you looking to make ahead of those games?
Same preparation as always, scrims, watching what they play and what they want to play, and what we play and what we want to play, and going into the game confident.
Thanks again to Jezu for talking with us, as mentioned in that last question he faces the MAD Lions this Friday at 8pm, with the first game starting at 5pm. Can't wait? Don't worry, stay tuned for more news, interviews and features here at GGRecon!
