Someone Recreated Among Us In The Unreal Engine 4
InnerSloth's Among Us has been given a futuristic update as the usually crude graphics of the social deduction game have been brought up to date with an Unreal Engine 4 remastering. Despite the fact Among Us first came out in 2018, the outer space Cluedo found a new home in the midst of this year's COVID-19 pandemic. With everyone from Félix "xQc" Lengyel to Rachell "Valkyrae" Hofstetter playing Among Us, even Democrat politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has stepped in for a round.
To say Among Us looks a little simple would be a polite understatement. Added to this, there hasn't been a new map for a year, meaning it's not exactly a game that keeps rolling out content. Still, with InnerSloth being a minute three-person team, let's give them a break. Part of Among Us' charm is its pixilated look as those tiny astronauts bop around that murderous tin can. If you've ever wondered what a more realistic take would look like, you need wonder no more.
What does Among Us look like in Unreal Engine 4?
YouTuber Fat Dino is known for his glossy remasterings of titles like Flappy Bird and Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, but now, Among Us is getting the same treatment. With refined graphics and dynamic lighting, it's truly a joy to behold. Yes, even the spilt blood shines in the usually dark abyss of space. In the 10-minute video, Fat Dino explains how he used assets from the Unreal Engine 4 to recreate Skeld in all its glory - well, most of it.
With time against him, Fat Dino only managed to recreate half the map. However, with notable locales including the cafeteria, engine rooms, medbay, security, reactor, and the dreaded electrical, it's easy to tell this is Among Us. More than just looking like Skeld, Fat Dino's Unreal Engine 4 remake actually plays like Among Us.
Alongside a recreation of Skeld, Fat Dino has populated its map with astronauts. Although they aren't as adorable are their OG selves, you can see the vibe he was going for. The doomed astronauts can complete tasks like dump trash and complete the medbay scanner to prove they aren't an Imposter.
The main part of Among Us is trying to figure out who the Imposter is, so don't worry, Fat Dino has also thought of this. There's a chat function where gamers can accuse their teammates of being a murderous shapeshifter and then blast them into space. Importantly, the Unreal Engine 4 version of Among Us isn't far off a workable version. Even though InnerSloth has canned its plans for Among Us 2, we've got a taste of what a next-gen version of Among Us could look like.
All we need now is for developers to adopt the Unreal Engine 4 for the future of Among Us. We can only hope!
