Among Us has been given a new lease of life thanks to one dedicated fan who has recreated the game in the Unreal Engine 4.
There are some who would argue that Among Us is a 'dying game'. However, the online multiplayer game sprung back into life again during the COVID-19 pandemic with players such as Rachell "Valkyrae" Hofstetter fighting for the game's survival.
Democrat politician and Gen-Z hero Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez caused a storm on Twitch when she also popped in for a quick round. Even shouty-man Félix "xQc" Lengyel founf new love with the game, but he soon left due to 'hate'.
However, one thing Among Us isn't exactly renowned for is its graphics, which are pretty basic. Yet, one fan has gone above and beyond to give Among Us a modern makeover by recreating the game in Unreal Engine 4.
What Would Among Us Look Like In Unreal Engine 4?
Imagine Alien with a bunch of colourful astronauts running around the place, and you've got yourself Among Us in Unreal Engine 4. Among Us fans will know that the original game has a simple and wholesome 2D cartoon design. However, by being given a snazzy new makeover in Unreal Engine 4, Among Us has been blessed with a more realistic look thanks to a glossy 3D transformation.
In the 10-minute video, Skeld can be seen in all its carnivorous glory. Due to time constraints, the recreation only includes half of the map. Still, Among Us fans will be pleased to know that instantly-recognisable locales including the cafeteria, engine rooms, medbay, security, reactor, and the dreaded electrical made their way to the fold.
In keeping with the theme of trying to make the transformation as authentic to the source material as possible, there's also a chat function where gamers can accuse their teammates of being a murderous Imposter and blast them off into the emptiness of space. After all, the name of the game is to rat out the scheming shapeshifter in order to survive. No, InnerSloth didn't steal this idea from Fortnite.
Who Recreated Among Us In Unreal Engine 4?
YouTuber Fat Dino has a plethora of games he has given some realistic pazzaz to over time and it has earned him a whopping number of views in the process. For example, he has used his Unreal Engine 4 skills to give a transformation to games like, Flappy Bird, Minecraft, and Plants vs. Zombies.
However, it was his recreation of Among Us which really pulled in the punters with over 16 million views at the time of writing. In the video, Fat Dino explained that he started the project by making an astronaut model before moving on to finding 3D models to place around the game that you would expect to see in a sci-fi game or film and the rest went on from there.
There may be no plans for an Among Us 2 in the near future. Although, given how this Unreal Engine version isn't far off from being workable, Among Us fans could be in for a truly immersive sci-fi experience which will fuel their engines.
