Among Us Airship Glitch Lets You Play The Map Months Early
As what was easily the biggest game of the year in 2020, it's no surprise there's a lot of hype surrounding the upcoming Among Us update. The tiny development team at InnerSloth has teased the arrival of a new map for the first time in over a year, and safe to say, Crewmates and Imposters alike can't wait to take flight on Airship.
Thanks to its meteoric rise on Twitch and being played by some of the streaming service's biggest names, the social deduction game found a new lease of life and dominated our lives during the global pandemic. Whereas some games like Fall Guys and Phasmophobia have started a downward turn from their peaks, Among Us is continuing to keep the fickle fanbase active with a tonne of new content.
The Polus map was added last November, meaning there's a lot riding on this change of scenery. While gamers were told the huge update will come in "early 2021", a new Among Us Airship glitch has allowed some to play it months ahead of schedule.
Among Us Airship glitch: How does it work?
A video by GameXplain reveals how you can get access to Airship early. All you'll need is a Nintendo Switch and a few sneaky steps. Be warned, this is still a relatively bare-bones version of Airship that isn't as polished as it will presumably be when devs are ready to fully unveil it to the world. If you're ready, follow these steps to master the Among Us Airship glitch:
- Boot up your copy of Among Us and press "Local" on the main menu to create your own game.
- Select "Airship" map via the laptop
- Leave the lobby, press "Online", and host a room without choosing the map
- The Airship map should load up when four more players join
Among Us and a first proper look at Airship were a big part of this year's Game Awards. Alongside a colourful map set in the skies, there are new tasks to take part in, elevators to traverse the map, and the ability to spawn in whichever room you want after a meeting has been called. Added to this, there are all the usual cosmetics you'd expect from such a big update. Importantly, the glitch lets Switch players get the jump on the competition and master the map ahead of schedule.
The idea of the Among Us Airship glitch has come at just the right time for Nintendo and InnerSloth. With the game's release only just making the move from mobile and PC to Switch, it's debut has been far from perfect. As well as buying the base game for $5/£3.89, Among Us required you to sign up to Nintendo Switch Online, which costs another $20/£17.99. This hidden cost makes the tiny title cost more than some major games out there, begging the question about why you'd part with your cash to play it on the Switch.
Still, Among Us is as popular as ever. After becoming a meme-worthy addition to 2020 and a pop culture phenomenon in its own right, we've already seen copycat developers try to get a piece of the pie. The biggest is Epic Games adding a "sus" Among Us-esque mode to Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 5. Well, they do say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Even with early access to Airship, the Switch port is still a steep price to pay when there are much cheaper ways to enjoy Among Us. All in all, is it really worth £20 to explore a half-built version of Airship so you can boast to other Crewmates? We're not here to tell you how to spend your money, so you decided.
