With the latest Apex Legends season: Season 8 – Mayhem, things are taking an explosive turn in the game. New updates to the King Canyon map, New Legend 'Fuse', and a new rifle type weapon have been introduced, after quite a long time without a new gun for the meta. The game has become lively again with the addition of a new weapon, as it could incentivise players to form new strategies around the weapon and try out new combinations with the Legends.

Battle royale video games can become stale after quite some time. However, the developers are doing a steady job of keeping the fans entertained. Season 8's newest assault rifle, the 30-30 Repeater has been receiving mixed feedback from the players and content creators. While some players are having an absolute blast with the weapon, others think it could use a buff on some elements like reload speed, charge speed, and more, to make it a viable pick for all the players.

The 30-30 Repeater Rifle is an action-lever weapon that uses Heavy Rounds, and it has a single firing mode. The weapon can use all the scopes in the game, and it can open doors by shooting at the handles. It is quite versatile and performs best in long-range gunfights. It has a bullet velocity drop in longer ranges. Therefore, players need to be impeccable with their aim to get consistent damage from the weapon.

Now that we have the basics down, let's dive deep into the mechanics, and how players can use them to win team fights in Apex Legends.

HOW TO USE THE 30-30 REPEATER RIFLE

The 30-30 Repeater Rifle has a charge mechanic like some of the existing weapons available in the game. The weapon is best suited for long-range engagements and deals decent damage over extended distances. It has a sharp accuracy, and when the player ADS', they have the option to charge up the shot and deal enhanced damage to the enemies.

The gun is very versatile, and here are the scopes that it can support:

  • 1x Holo
  • 1x HCOG "Classic"
  • 2x HCOG "Bruiser"
  • 1x-2x Variable Holo
  • 3x HCOG "Ranger"
  • 2x-4x Variable AOG

The smaller scopes work the best, as it is more comfortable to land the shots on the enemies, while it has bullet trajectory fall when using it with longer scopes, and it could catch the player by surprise. The gun is one of the two weapons in the game which reloads one bullet at a time, and that could be a deal-breaker for many players. The slow reload speed is necessary as the weapon is a hybrid between an assault rifle and a sniper.

In terms of magazines, the Extended Heavy Mag can be used in all the rarities starting with Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary to increase the number of bullets and increase the weapon's reload speed. The gun generally has a low number of bullets; therefore, finding a magazine will be integral to perform well with this weapon.

Moreover, the 30-30 Repeater can also use the Standard Stock's several rarities to stabilise the weapon and further decrease the recoil. Naturally, the recoil is significantly less on the weapon, and its charge mechanic allows the player to pick headshots with it in long-range duels.

It has the capability to become one of the best weapons in the game, but it falls short in close one-on-one duels. Therefore, players should carry a shotgun/sub-machine weapon in the secondary slot to counter enemy pushes. To get the best out of the 30-30 Repeater rifle, players need to use it in long-medium range duels and knock enemies down to get an advantage on the opposition. Always try to charge up the first shot of the weapon, and if it connects to the head, don't feel shy to spray the weapon without charging it as it has decent accuracy to take down enemies from afar.

Currently, the weapon is mighty, and many players like it. But having too many good qualities on a single weapon might mean the developers nerf this weapon in the coming days or weeks.

IS THE 30-30 REPEATER OVER-POWERED?

Although the apparent flaws like long reload time and close range efficiency let it down, the weapon does its job brilliantly. There aren't many weapons in the game that gracefully serve the role of assault rifles and damage the enemies like a sniper.

The weapon has a special place in the game's meta, and it will be interesting to see the adjustments made to it in the future patches. Till then, bulky agents with solid ranged abilities like Fuse could utilise this weapon and take out squads from a distance without getting their hands dirty in Apex Legends.
