The open world in Rise of the Ronin is quite big, and to explore it fully you’re going to need to find and unlock the horse. The game will see you travelling around a fair amount searching for everything from cats to Shrines, so a horse is going to save you a lot of time until you can fast travel more.

Rise of the Ronin is set in 19th Century Japan and there is a major emphasis on traversal with the glider and grapple also being very important to how you get around the fields and cities of the game.

The first horse you find will be unlocked by picking up the Horse Flute off a body in the town of Honmoku. This town is the first place you go to after completing the tutorial where you’re tasked with clearing the town of bandits.

After making the town safe you will be left by a Veiled Edge Banner with a corpse next to it. If you don’t grab the Horse Flute here you will have to wait until you reach a stable or rest at the Longhouse for the first time.

Where to find the stables in Rise of the Ronin

There are multiple stables you can find in the world, and this is where you can buy different horses and equipment. In total, there are seven different stables you can go to while exploring Japan and I’ve listed them below:

  • Ishikawa
  • Bashamichi
  • Yoshida-Shinden x2
  • Kariba
  • Kanagawa

That is all you need about finding a horse and stables in the game. For more guides check out our Rise of the Ronin homepage where we have already covered upgrading Medicine Pills, finding the glider and changing your appearance
