It's always been about the cards, and the new Pokemon TCG Pocket app is about to give fans another way to play the popular trading card game when it arrives on iOS and Android in 2024.

Nowadays the Pokemon franchise has evolved every which way, becoming pet-like as they help you sleep, get in your steps, and immerse us past the 2D models that we grew up with into open-world titles full of our favourite furries.

But it's always been a card game, and now your deck is coming along everywhere you go, as Pokemon TCG Pocket is taking the trading card game digital in a new format.

Pokemon TCG Pocket will be released in 2024

In an environment where Pokemon TCG Live already exists for players around the world to collect the biggest and baddest of Nintendo's animalistic beasts, in a duelling-heavy format, Pokemon TCG Pocket is now coming in with a focus on catching 'em all.

Announced during the Pokemon Presents presentation on February 27, Pokemon Pocket is coming to mobiles around the world as a new 3D-animated card-trading game, where you'll be able to trade your deck with friends and even join in on some friendly 1v1s.

The new app, which will have you ripping open packs like it was 1998, is set to launch at some point in 2024, although a more pin-point date was not detailed in the Presents showcase.

What's the difference between Pokemon TCG Live and Pocket?

Developed by the Pokemon Company, Creature Inc. (who created the original TCG app), and Pokemon Masters EX partner DNA, Pokemon TCG Pocket is set to offer more immersion to the card game by offering 3D card designs where you can really get to know the story of each creature in your pocket, more than the still-paper images of old show.

The main pull is getting hands-on with the card opening system, where players will get two new packs every single day, and can be shared with friends. Here, you'll swipe to rip open packs and look through your collection, hoping to see the glimmer of something rare underneath.

The battle system will also have a "more streamlined" combat, designed for on-the-go gameplay where you can fit in a quick game no matter how little time you have spare.

The Pokemon Presents presentation also announced a new 2025 title called Pokemon Legends Z-A that will also get Nintendo fans stirring with the return of Mega Evolutions!
