New or old, every player wants to know how to win Fortnite matches. Fortnite is ever-changing and each match plays out differently, but there are some tried and true strategies that will drastically increase your chances of achieving a Fortnite Victory Royale. With Fortnite Season 8 on the horizon, there’s no better time for new and/or existing players to learn how to win Fortnite matches.

Learn a landing spot

Winning Fortnite matches begins with mastering your landing spot. Landing at a different location each match can be fun, but if you really want to know how to win at Fortnite, you should master one specific landing spot.

Landing in the same spot each match will allow you to study and learn everything about that one location. Where the chests and ammo boxes are, where loot spawns, nearby non-player characters (NPCs) and Upgrade Benches, etc. You will also begin to learn how long you can stay there before you need to rotate and move to a new location to avoid the incoming Storm.

Become an expert on your landing spot and you’ll always be one step ahead of any other unfamiliar players that dare to challenge you. Practising an early-game ritual at the same drop spot every match will help in the quest to win Fortnite Victory Royales.

As for where to land, aspiring Fortnite winners will want to choose a low-key location that’s off the grid. Hot drops like Pleasant Park and Lazy Lake are not good places to land if you’re trying to figure out how to win Fortnite matches.

Unnamed locations on the edges of the map are prime spots to begin a match. The chances of another player landing on you are slim, meaning you’ll have ample time to loot up and prepare for the match ahead. Find a remote location on the map to call your own and use this as your permanent landing spot.

Upgrade your arsenal

Getting a Fortnite win is a tough task in and of itself, but it’ll be even tougher without good loot. The next step in how to win Fortnite matches is to upgrade your arsenal. Thoroughly loot your landing spot for weapons, shields, health items, and anything that will help you in your journey to be the last player standing.

Finding loot in the wild comes down to luck, but NPCs, Vending Machines, and Upgrade Benches can offer guaranteed access to high-tier loot. Certain NPCs around the map will sell you upgraded weapons and meds, including Mythic rarity weapons. Vending Machines will randomly distribute preset loot and Upgrade Benches offer the opportunity to upgrade your current weapon to the next rarity level.

All of these services cost Gold Bars, Fortnite’s in-match currency acquired through completing bounties and quests, eliminating players, and opening chests. If you’re short on Gold Bars, we have another guide that will teach you how to earn Gold Bars in Fortnite.

Use the first few minutes of a match to stock up on supplies and make sure you’re prepared to chase that elusive Fortnite Victory Royale.

Avoid fighting unless absolutely necessary

Every Fortnite player dreams of slaying out and eliminating the whole lobby like Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, Turner “Tfue” Tenney, and Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf, but for most players, that’s not a winning strategy. Battling other players can be thrilling, but it doesn’t really help you in the search for a Fortnite win. You could have 20 eliminations in a game but still lose to a player with just one elimination. When it comes time to win Fortnite matches, all that matters is surviving and being the last player standing.

Readers that want to know how to win Fortnite Victory Royales need to learn to avoid fighting whenever possible. Not only do battles with enemy players put you in harm's way, but they also attract a lot of attention. Even if you beat one player, there's likely another player waiting to sneak up and finish you off.

Instead of running in guns blazing, opt to lurk around the edges of the Storm circle, even hiding in bushes when possible. There’s no shame in playing it safe if you win the game in the end!

Despite all of this, at some point in the match, you may need to finally engage an enemy player. Ideally, this won't be until there are only three other players alive total - you and two opponents. Lay in wait until you hear the other two players begin to fight. When things are most hectic, jump in and finish the job. If you time it right, one player will be dead and the other will be weak and ill-prepared for you. This third-party strategy is the easiest way to earn a Victory Royale in Fortnite.

Become a master builder

When you eventually do get in a fight with an enemy player, you’ll need to know how to build properly. Building is a key aspect of Fortnite.

Building can be used to create on-the-fly cover, transfer to high ground, and drop down from tall structures and mountains without taking damage. Throwing up simple walls and ramps alone will make your life a lot easier. You don’t have to be an absolute architect to win Fortnite matches - just make sure you know how to exercise the building basics.

Creative Mode is a great resource for wannabe builders. In Creative Mode, Fortnite players can practice building in a stress-free environment with infinite materials to their heart’s content. You can even try out some of the best Fortnite Creative maps designed to train your building skills.

Once you start to feel a little more comfortable with the building mechanic, try to learn some of the best Fortnite building techniques such as 90s, ramp rushing, and waterfalls. The better you get at building, the easier it will be to win Fortnite Victory Royales.

While you now know the basics of winning Fortnite, there’s plenty more to learn from season to season. Good luck!
