How to unlock fishing in Genshin Impact & all fishing spots

Any good game should have fishing in my view, and Genshin Impact is no different. Despite being an action-packed anime-style adventure, Genshin lets you kick back and catch a few fish if you're so inclined, and there are lots of fishing spots to find to do so.

This guide will show you how to unlock fishing in the game, as well as all the current fishing spots you can visit. Each fishing spot has a variety of fish to catch, and some require certain bait or only come out at night, so I've also put together a quick guide on bait further below.

How to unlock fishing in Genshin Impact

Unfortunately, it's quite an ordeal to unlock fishing in Genshin Impact. On a new account, it took days of gameplay for me to reach the appropriate questline.

Firstly, you need to progress through the Archon Quests until you've completed the third Liyue Archon Quest, called "A New Star Approaches". Then, go see Madame Ping and complete the quest "A Teapot to Call Home".

Completing this quest for Madame Ping will unlock another quest called "Exploding Population". Go see Katheryne in Mondstadt to start this quest, then visit Nantuck by the water outside the city.

After talking to him, travel to the quest waypoint and you'll be given a tutorial on how to fish. Follow this tutorial and you'll be able to fish wherever you like!

Mondstadt Fishing Spots

The fishing spots in Mondstadt are:

• The south end of the river that runs through the Stombearer Mountains
• Two spots on Cider Lake that are east and west of the Mondstadt gates
• Two spots in Stormterror’s Lair
• West of the Dawn Winery
• Directly south of the Windrise teleport point
• Dragonspine, south of the Wrymrest Valley

Liyue Fishing Spots

The fishing spots in Liyue are:

• Dihua Marsh, south of Wuwang Hill.
• West of Wangshu Inn.
• Along the coast of Qingce Village
• Two spots on an island east of Bishui Plain
• In the Guili Plains, on the expanse that connects it to the Mingyun Village.
• In the middle of Luhua Pool
• East of Mt Hulao
• Liyue Harbor, on the point furthest east
• The center of Mt Aocang
• The middle of Tianqiu Valley to the left of a waypoint
• Underground Waterway in The Chasm
• Inside the Nameless Ruins

Inazuma Fishing Spots

The fishing spots in Inazuma are:

• Ritou
• Amakane Island
• Nazuchi Beach
• Tatarasuna
• Two east of Koseki Village
• Directly north of the Sangonomiya Shrine
• East of the Suigetsu Pool

Enkanomiya

• Southern-most point of the Serpent’s Bowels
• Two spots, north and west of The Serpent's Heart.

Sumeru Fishing Spots

Here are all the Sumeru fishing spots:

• North of Mawtiyama Forest
• To the south-west of Vanarana at the top of a body of water
• Two spots in Yazadaha Pool
• North of Vimara Village
• Inside Devantaka Mountain
• South of the Statue of the Seven near Devantaka Mountain
• Near Aaru Village
• Far to the south of Aaru Village in a small body of water
• Just to the left of Debris of Panjvahe on the map
• Below Temir Mountains

Fontaine Fishing Spots

Finally, here are all the Fontaine fishing spots:

• West coast of the West Slopes of Mont Automnequi, and another spot on the coast opposite
• Elynas South Side Mountain
• Elynas North-east Beach
• Below the city wall to the south
• A fishing boat to the west of Opera Epiclese
• Fountain of Lucine, Western Shoal
• Salacia Plain, Western Shoal
• Mary-Ann Memorial Park
• To the north-east of Mont Esus East
• South-west of Foggy Forest Path
• Northern coast of Lumidouce Harbor
• On the island west of Fort Charybdis Ruins
• On a coastline west of the Statue of the Seven near Fort Charybdis Ruins

As with any other harvestable items, fish take three real days to respawn from a fishing spot and require different types of bait or times of the day to spawn. Night-time is measured from 6pm to 6am and daytime is measured from 6am to 6pm.

Below is every type of Bait in Genshin Impact and which fish can be caught by them. If unspecified, the fish is available both day and night, but if it's only obtainable at either day or night it will be noted next to it name.
