Fortnite Chapter 5 brings with it a bunch of new gameplay features, one of which is the new yellow circle that you might have occasionally spotted on your map.

The game doesn't do a fantastic job of explaining what this mysterious yellow circle is, so it can be a bit confusing when you first see it. Don’t worry, you don’t need to worry about staying inside this one!

Here’s what you need to know about the yellow circle in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1.

What is the yellow circle in Fortnite?

The yellow circle in Fortnite highlights the general area of a player carrying a Society Medallion. These can be collected by defeating any of the five world bosses in Chapter 5. The more Medallions that a player is carrying, the smaller the circle will be, making it easier for opponents to find their location.

So, depending on the sort of player that you are, you can either avoid the yellow circle or make a beeline for it. If you’re confident in your abilities and have great gear, you might want to think about taking the player with a Society Medallion head-on.

However, if you’re more of a defensive player and don’t have a great deal of top-tier loot yet, you should probably steer clear of the yellow circle for now.

What do Society Medallions do?

As mentioned, Society Medallions can be collected from the five world bosses in Chapter 5, and there’s a good reason to go hunting for them. For one, they enable players to unlock the vaults that house Mod Benches, which in turn lets you apply modifications to your weapons.

In addition, keeping a Society Medallion on your person will provide you with a passive buff, slowly regenerating your health and shields for as long as you’re holding it. Of course, this comes at the cost of having your location displayed on the map for the entire game to see. While they might give you a small boost in combat, you’re also painting a very big target on your back.

Still, at least you now know exactly what the yellow circle means in Fortnite. We’ll leave it up to you whether you want to stay away from it or not!
