Fortnite The Sideways is an alternate reality that has collided with the Fortnite world in Chapter 2 - Season 8. This terrifying parallel dimension within Fortnite is overflowing with monsters and an arsenal of special weaponry. Fortnite players hoping to survive in the aftermath of Fortnite Operation Sky Fire will need to familiarize themselves with Fortnite The Sideways and all of the mysteries within this new dimension.

Fortnite The Sideways: What Is The Sideways

According to Epic Games, The Sideways is a “dark, malevolent, monster-filled reality.” Gravity is low and players are unable to build in The Sideways, meaning your primary method of defence will be unavailable for use. The Sideways is a scary and dangerous place, but there are rewards to be had for those that best it.

The Sideways areas are mysterious, and it sounds like they will continue to develop and play a major role in Chapter 2 - Season 8.

Thankfully for those adverse to monsters and mystery, it will be difficult to accidentally wander into The Sideways. Entering the Sideways will require intentional effort.

The first method of visiting The Sideways is through the use of Sideways Anomalies. Sideways Anomalies are spawning as a result of the corrupted Cubes spreading the Fortnite island. Approach a Sideways Anomaly and enter it for a free trip to The Sideways.

Each match, one random point of interest (POI) will be covered in The Sideways. This chosen location will be called a Sideways Zone. Travelling to a Sideways Zone and walking into it is the most direct way of getting into The Sideways in Fortnite.

Finally, there is a new item called the Port-A-Portal. The description of the Port-A-Portal reads “a portable portal to The Sideways!”  When used, the Port-A-Portal will likely spawn a Sideways Anomaly out of thin air for players to enter and be teleported to The Sideways.

Inside of The Sideways lurks dangerous monsters hungry for Fortnite players’ souls. The most common creature found in The Sideways is the Cube Monster. These are the basic zombie-looking creatures Fortnite players remember from the original Fortnitemares event.

However, The Sideways is also home to some much scarier types of monsters. There appears to be a boss creature hiding in the mists of The Sideways. At a glance, this horrifying Fortnite creature resembles the legendary Siren Head.

There’s a chance that more monster types evolve within The Sideways as Fortnite Chapter 2 - Season 8 goes on, but these are the monsters players should expect to see as of now.

Fortnite The Sideways: Weapons Within The Sideways

Right now, readers may be wondering why anyone would visit The Sideways at all. Why face off against scary monsters in a zone you can’t build in? Well, the answer is that there are special weapons in The Sideways that can’t be found anywhere else on the island.

Defeated monsters in The Sideways will drop Cube Monster Parts. Cube Monster Parts are a new kind of crafting material introduced in Chapter 2 - Season 8. Players can use Cube Monster Parts to craft special Sideways weapons and upgrade currently equipped Sideways weapons.

At Season 8’s launch, the Sideways Rifle and the Sideways Minigun are available for crafting. In a later update, the Sideways Shotgun and the Sideways Scythe will be introduced.

The Sideways guns deal bonus damage when revved to a superpowered state. Sideways guns work on a cooldown system, but if you can keep them right on the edge of overheating, they will deal bonus damage.

The Sideways Scythe is especially interesting. This melee weapon will come equipped with five unique abilities: Health Siphon, Dash Attack, Smash Attack, Charge Attack, and Jump Attack.

These items will not be exclusive to crafting entirely. Fortnite players will be able to find these Sideways weapons as floor loot and inside of Sideways Chests. Of course, Sideways Chests only spawn in The Sideways.

This may only be the beginning of The Sideways. This alternative Fortnite universe will continue to evolve as Chapter 2 - Season 8 carries on. Use this guide to prepare for battle with the monsters inside The Sideways.
