Fortnite Lightsabers weren't around for long, but they will always be remembered as one of the most fun-to-use weapons to ever exist in Fortnite. Fortnite has always been known for its amazing crossovers and collaborations, and its partnership with Star Wars is arguably the biggest one of all. After their vaulting nearly two years ago, rumour has it that Fortnite Lightsabers might be back soon.

Let's go over Fortnite Lightsabers and if/when these extraordinary melee weapons might make a return to Fortnite.

Fortnite Lightsabers are one of the few Fortnite melee weapons to have ever existed. Lightsabers originally appeared in Chapter 2 Season 1 as part of the Live At Risky collaboration event and come in Mythic rarity.

Functionally, Lightsabers are capable of both dealing and blocking damage. One swing of a Lightsaber will initiate a combo sequence of different attacks. Lightsabers are extremely fierce at close range but entirely ineffective outside of their strike range.

There are 4 versions of the Fortnite Lightsaber:

  • Blue (Rey)
  • Green (Luke)
  • Red (Kylo Ren)
  • Purple (Mace Windu)

Despite their differences in appearance, all Lightsabers have the same exact stats and attack styles.

According to prominent Fortnite leaker FNAssist, Lightsabers are on their way back to Fortnite. After being vaulted in Chapter 2 Season 2, Fortnite Lightsabers made a second showing from May 2 to May 5 of 2020 in celebration of Star Wars Day. After that, the Lightsaber files were removed from the game, not to be seen since.

That all changed in the v19.10 update when files related to Lightsaber animations, VFX, data, melee combat, and gameplay abilities were all re-added. There are only a couple of reasons as to why Epic Games would do this:

  1. Lightsabers will return to the game in the near future

  2. Epic Games is using the Lightsaber files to craft new types of melee weapons

Looking at what's on the horizon in terms of Star Wars, it wouldn't be a shock to see Lightsabers come back as part of another collaboration. However, new melee weapons would be a pleasant surprise as well. Either way, Fortnite players that love to get up close and personal have something exciting to look forward to.

As for when exactly Fortnite Lightsabers will return, there are a few guesses:

  1. The week of May 4, 2022. While Lightsabers didn't come back in 2021, there's a chance that Epic Games will decide to celebrate May The Fourth again this year.

  2. As part of another Fortnite X Star Wars crossover. Historically, Fortnite and Star Wars get together whenever it's time to promote new Star Wars content. We saw this with The Rise of Skywalker, The Mandolorian, and Book of Boba Fett. Iconic Star Wars characters like  Kylo Ren, Rey, Zorii Bliss, and the Imperial Stormtrooper have been introduced to Fortnite this way. Looking ahead, the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi show scheduled for release sometime in 2022 would make for the perfect setting for another Fortnite X Star Wars collaboration — Lightsabers included.

While we sadly do not have an exact date confirmed for when Fortnite Lightsabers will come back to the game, these guesses above present a solid idea of when you can expect the opportunity to rush into battle with a Lightsaber once again.

You are now prepared for the return of the Fortnite Lightsaber. Stay tuned for more information on future Fortnite X Star Wars collaborations.
