After a launch that was rockier than Geodude, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is a real treat now. The games launched with bugs, glitches, and breaks like the franchise had never seen before. It helped to convince players that their suspicions of The Pokemon Company doing the bare minimum to churn out a game were fair.

Even though Scarlet & Violet have won players over with fixes, issues still remain, and there's little that can be done about the generation's moniker as the worst-launched generation of Pokemon ever.

In what seems to be the universe giving back to disappointed Pokemon players, there are glitches left in the game that are incredibly useful - like a new one discovered that's duplicating Master Balls en masse.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet have new item dupe glitch

A new means of duplicating items has been discovered in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, proving that devs can patch them out all they like because fans are just going to find a new one anyway. It's reminiscent of Tears of the Kingdom's many glitches, which stopped some people from updating the 2023 game.

Streamer Osirus shares the duplication glitch, and while it's a pretty complicated one, it certainly gets the job done. The Scarlet & Violet duplication glitch demands that you enlist the help of Ditto and Smeargle, perhaps the two most off-kilter Pokemon in the game.

It's a strategy that also needs a Kyurem or Black Kyurem in your party, access to the Terarium Savannah, and luring a Smeargle into a very specific position. The video posted by Osirus details it best, but be willing to put in the work to duplicate those items.

To pull off the Scarlet & Violet duplication glitch, follow these (not-so-simple) steps.

  • Train a Level 100 Ditto that has the Limber ability
  • Place Kyurem or Black Kyurem in your second slot while holding the item you want to duplicate. Make sure only the 'Imprison' move is slotted
  • Have a Pokemon that knows 'Trick'
  • Lure a wild Smeargle into a glitched spot in the Terarium Savannah
  • Have Ditto transform into Smeargle and make Smeargle use Sketch to copy transform
  • Quickly switch to Kyurem or Black Kyurem
  • When Smeargle transforms into Kyurem, use a battle item to stall until the Kyurem-transformed Smeargle uses Imprison
  • Allow the Pokemon to battle with struggle, and after waiting a few turns, flee the fight
  • Smeargle will be glitched into the area with the duplicated item. Steal the item, run away, and repeat the glitch

What happened to Scarlet & Violet's item printer?

Fans might be wondering what would lead players to exploit the game to duplicate some items when a feature like the item printer exists in the game - especially as it still works as intended. Remember, that you still need to farm resources in order to duplicate their items that way.

By exploiting the trick employed by Osirus, players are getting goodies quickly and for free. You might be breaking the rules, but for many, it doesn't matter much more than getting 999 Master Balls. We supposed it's whatever it takes to become a Pokemon Master. Make the most of the glitch before Game Freak catches you.
