CDL Los Angeles Day 2 Recap
The Dallas Empire have defeated the Minnesota Rokkr in the finals of CDL Los Angeles. It was a somewhat close series though the Empire proved to be too much for the Rokkr to overcome. This is Dallas’ first tournament win in the 2020 Call of Duty League. The outcome may have been different if they had to play the Atlanta FaZe, however, who were beaten in the round before by Minnesota. How did the Empire pull out its first event win?
Dallas Empire takes down Minnesota Rokkr in L.A.
In possibly the best grand finals of the CDL so far, the Empire was able to defeat the red hot Rokkr by a score of 3-2. Though the score of the series is close, the overall matchups weren't too exciting with the exception of one game. The Empire went up 2-0 early but quickly lost two games in a row to bring the series to a winner-take-all game five.
Even though Minnesota was coming off one of the best Hardpoint match wins in Call of Duty history, it wasn’t enough. Dallas is simply too strong in Search and Destroy at this point and the Rokkr couldn’t match their intensity.
Cuyler “Huke” Garland went off in the final search and destroy, going 13-5 and carrying his squad to a victory. For now, Dallas has put the doubters to rest but we can’t help but think what would have happened if Atlanta had made it to the grand finals instead of Minnesota. The Empire has yet to win a map against FaZe, which is a trend that could’ve continued in the grand finals had Atlanta made it there.
Nonetheless, this is a great win for Dallas right before their homestand, which takes place on Mar. 28-29. The Chicago Huntsmen will be in attendance, so the Empire will need to beat them to prove they’re the real deal in the CDL.
