Caustic hasn't dominated the Apex Legends meta in a long time, with the Toxic Trapper sitting at a 3.2% pick rate in Season 20.

Despite this, he's also always had a dedicated group of mains who love his ability to cause chaos in a skirmish and lay down huge amounts of AoE gas for disruption.

The problem with these toxic clouds is that they look the same for both ally and enemy Caustics. This can be a major problem for players who charge into the gas assuming it won't deal damage, just to lose half their health bar and die.

Luckily, the community has a solution for Respawn, and they want the devs to implement the change as soon as possible.

Apex Legends fans want allied Caustic gas to be a different colour

Taking to the Apex Legends subreddit, user AnalystShort1331 decided to call on Respawn to make Caustic "gas a different colour" if the Toxic Trapper is on your team.

At the moment, toxic clouds appear the standard green for everyone and if a skirmish involves two Caustics, it can be a guessing game over which fumes you can enter, and which you need to avoid.

"Wattson fences are colour-coded with friendly fences being blue and enemy fences being red... So, why is this not the case with Caustic?".

This would be a "huge quality of life" update for the Toxic Trapper and avoid frustrating deaths to gas that feel out of a competitor's control. It's even possible Caustic's pick rate will increase with this adjustment, as it will allow squads to have more synergy, especially those who don't use comms.

Caustic mains also call for Gas Trap visibility changes for teammates

Gas aside, players also want allied Caustic barrels to appear differently so teammates avoid shooting them by mistake.

This is a massive problem in Mixtape where the Toxic Trapper is amazing at locking down points, but because allies are concerned about getting gassed, they destroy both friendly and enemy barrels.

"This is especially a problem in Mixtape... it’s chaos, and there’s no way to tell whether the barrel that was placed is for your team, or for the enemy."

These adjustments shouldn't be too difficult for Respawn to roll out and they would make a massive difference while playing alongside a Caustic. The Toxic Trapper is a brilliant Legend, but at the moment with gas being indistinguishable from friend or foe, he's a bit of a nuisance to have as an ally.
